Just curious on what you guys have spent on rebuilding you T56?

Getting mine done in December and a new clutch too, lol.

Package 4B from T-56 rebuilds...at the same time, I put in an RPS lightweight clutch and a carbon fiber driveshaft. My Strange 12-bolt with 4.11s will be here tomorrow...this year is all about the drivetrain.

Just got mine rebuilt last month at a local shop but ordered the parts from T56 Rebuilds.
I wanted to do it right the first time so I had pretty much everything replaced...

-steel 3-4 shift Fork = $40
-Synchro Rebuild Kit 1-6 & reverse = $170
-Bronze Fork Pads for 1-2 & 3-4 = $60
-Billet Slider Keys 3-4 = $75
-Bearing Kit = $149
-Textralia OZ700 = $979
-Master Cylinder $139
-Slave Cylinder w/T.O. bearing = $105
-Pilot bearing = $13
-Labor = $800

Grand Total = $2530

I would also recommend checking the reverse gear while your in there, I have problems with mine going in gear after the rebuild and the shop told me the gear was probably getting worn out. I dont know why they didnt see that while they had it open!

T56 Rebuilds I believe it was a 4b, also.

$2100. (included a $500 Core)

Core Transmission, New 1-2 Slider, New 3-4 Slider, New 5/6 Slider, New Reverse Slider, New Mainshaft, New 1-6 Gears, Carbon Fiber Synchros, 3-4 Billet Keys, New Mikronite Finishing on 1-4 Gear, Mikronite Finishing on 1-2 Slider and 3-4 Slider, Steel 3-4 Fork, Bronze Fork Pads 1-4 forks, New Bearings, Also an 02 (casting #8) Slave CYL.

I installed a McLeod Single clutch, FW, PP and the ADJ Master w/ it. I did the drill mod when I was in there. So, All in all I spent about $2600 for my clutch and transmission.

That's eventually what I want to do as well...just don't have the down time since this is my only car. One of these days, I too would like to be able to do my own rebuild...

I spoke with T56rebuilds and I'm going to have one custom-built to my specs. According to them, the rebuild I'm planning on should be good for 900+hp. Included will be all the bells & whistles, including straight-cut gears...Total price? $4000...

I would swap to an automatic before I spent $4K on a stick. I may go auto when my current tranny breaks.

My Camaro was originally a 4L60 (700R4). I swapped it to a TH-350, and I HATED IT. I'm not looking for a "dragstrip only" car...and if you think Automatics are more fun on the street, then you're friggin' nuts. I swapped in a T-56 tranny, and I'll NEVER switch back to an automatic transmission...EVER. BTW, the $4000 price tag includes ALL NEW INTERNALS. This should be the LAST transmission I ever buy for my car. And one thing you probably won't hear from a (well-built) automatic is the beautiful gear-whine of straight-cut manual transmission gears (which is included in my price quote). If you ever watched the SCCA Trans Am races with the yellow Corvette C5-R, you'd know exactly the sound I'm referring to...

I rebuilt mine myself as well using stuff from T56 and from AGE.
I got the bronze pads 1-6 and steel keys 3-4.
Iron 3-4 fork.

It was my 2nd manual but first T56. It was successful. But my reverse is giving me problems staying in sometimes. It must have been something you need experience to notice or something cuz I inspected the chit out of everything in it. When it's dissasembled it feels like 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle.

I spent close to a month rebuilding it. I did replace 3 gear and reverse as well so that took me a bit to round up cuz I didnt know they were gone until I cracked her open.

It is a moderate to difficult task in my opinion and you have to be well organized in what u take apart and put back together. I took pictures as well along the way. A good work bench and no time restrain will make things a lot easier.

Remember you want some play up front once u got her bolted backup she's not a T5!!! and dont take too much advice from T5 builders!!! T56 is different. If u go with a builder go with a T56 builder. She is not like older trannys in respect to tolerances.

These guys are excellent as well, and have a no nonsense no gimmick approach:

www.not-a-sponsor.com

Talk to the JR. He's very knowledgeable and the shop has a lot of experience.
Sorry dont know pricings and all but they helped me get a teflon bushing I needed as a last minute thing when I had lost 2-3 days already hunting for this 5buck item. Their shop is methodical and fukn! clean. There were no trashy looking trannys on broken shelfs. They ALL looked sandblasted clean.

last time i had a tranny rebuilt in my WS6 it was $560 at a local shop.Yesterday i watched my buddy take a T-56 apart and it seemed very simple (well not like i expected) if his goes back together well and works well then he and i will fix mine.
Since mine just wont go into 3rd, but doesnt grind so i figure there is not much wrong

$1300.

twice.

lost 3rd the first time, had it rebuilt with a new 3rd, new syncros, steel shift forks.

2nd time, master/slave went out and a syncro broke a dogleg, so had new syncros (again) and new 4th, 5th, 6th. i think i got robbed, though, because the car drove FINE - no noise, whining, chatternig, trouble going into gear, etc etc. we didnt know what caused it, though, until my throwout bearing went ballistic 8 hours from home. thats when we replaced the master/slave, and a new throwout bearing - the return spring had dug a 1/4" groove into the housing.
