I have a RAM clutch that is bad, clutch is worn down almost gone, I had a 6 point disc in there. The pressure plate doesnt have any grooves in it. Id say .030 would clean it up like new. The springs in it are not weak either, very strong pedal. Im guessing id have to shim the slave for whatever i machined off?
Ive never actually done a clutch before, I see they sell the discs seperate, So my question.....Is the pressure plate machinable or disposable?
And another question... Whats the best disc to put back in it.
Car has 400/400ish rwhp/tq. I dont want to buy a whole clutch setup if i dont have to.. And its a street car.
-6 pt metalic that was in it
-300 series race disc
-300 series street disc.
Can i put another brand disc in there?
like a centerforce dual friction?
any recomendations for a disc?

a good clutch machining shop can turn it down and make the necessary adjustments to the PP so I vote get a new disc. I did. Shims are not the answer, a good shop is.
Oh and to add to what he said, never mis-match clutches...unless the disc is EXACTLY the same thickness...down to the .001. Ram tech line is actually pretty helpful. They can tell you what thickness you started with on the existing disc to give you an idea. Also get the part # for the disc only and shop around for it...alot of places are much cheaper than direct.

I'd have both done at the same time this way the shop can adjust the PP for the amount of material removed from both the PP and flywheel.
