Spec stage 5 clutch cracking?
I just pulled out my SPEC stage V clutch after less that 2k miles of run time. The last 1500 of which have been at 6psi. I found cracks in the disc itself. I talked to SPEC on the phone and sent them pictures of the cracked disc.
I was very surprized to hear him tell me thats normal?!?! He's seen this many times and one has never come apart. I just dont understand how a cracked disc can be okay. Also said he would not warranty the disc.
Has anyone else seen this before? if so, whats the verdict?

Their warranty is only good for 90 days I was told. Regardless, they should stand behing their product. I was extremely surprized with the lack of customer service, especially considering this is the 4th clutch i've bought from them...Do the math, thats over $2000!! NEVER AGAIN! And I urge others to look elsewhere for their clutches!

Well after removing my STG5 (only 6000 miles on it), and installing a Textralia. I found the same cracks as well. Lets just say I am glad that I pulled this unit when I did!
I can understand the cracks running from the relief/ radius point's between the pucks, toward the hub. If the crack were to go all the way, in this situation the puck would still be contained.
But I have a crack running from 2 relief/radius's of one puck. If this crack would have progressed another 3/4-1'' I would have lost this puck, it would have broken away from the hub. Granted it might have been contained by the pressure plate, only one can imagen what the outcome would have been.
..........WIL62085........can you pm me the # who and where you spoke to...

....there are so many horror stories here with expensive aftermarket clutches ...that is why I went with the General's LS7. ..we know there are thousands of Z06s running around the country with 500+ HP that carry 3,200 lbs and the General's warranty.....
...that is good enough for me.
I was impressed with the massive pressure plate; this thing looks like it was designed for an 18-wheeler! The other parts seem ordinary but the mother really holds and at 700 clams it is a bargin!

Yeah that is the same initial reaction i got from Jeremy. "send me pictures and we will see what we can do". After that, he was extremely rude and ZERO help. Don't even bother trying to reason with them, just do your part to warn others from WASTING their hard earned money on SPEC crap!!!
well, mine car is an LT1 car, so that clutch won't work for me. Plus, I need about twice the LS7's holding capacity....

I do not think its power related, I think its a design issue. Street driving is probably more strenuous on a clutch than racing, so I do not believe power level is the issue. Just a poor clutch.
The other solid disc type clutches out there (similar to the SPEC 4 and 5) are thicker, and come with pressure plates that have been machined to accept them...
Bottom line, take it out of your car before you suffer from the Don Garlits syndrom...

Spec seems to be getting a lot of bad press here lately. I know I will never buy another one of thier products. It will be the LS7 or a twin disk from now on. Its easy for them to say its normal, it was installed wrong, you didn't know how to drive, the flywheel wasn't flat and on and on. Maybe some day they will stand up and fix thier substandard product.

hmm...i've disintegraded 2 spec clutch III clutch disks and destroyed 2 pressure plates. The springs all busted out of the sprung clutch disk hub and the fingers break off of the pressure plates. I will NEVER use another spec product. They always blamed installation and/or driving habits for the failures. Installed stock setup and never had a problem.
