Default flywheel resurfacing Q

i had my stock flywheel resurfaced and they took off .030 Is this alot to be removed??? I asked this because i installed a centerforce PP and disc and a shim behind the slave and still have problems.

clutch engages 1 inch off floor
drives smooth but cannot shift fast.

what im asking is .030 too much for the shim to overcome?

here is a rundown of what i have

stock flywheel resurfaced .030
new CF PP
new CF disc
stock master with drill mod done
stock slave
ram .150 shim

both master and slave have around 5k on them.

thanks in advance for any info

I dont know how many miles you have on the car, it just maybe a case where it needs to be broken in, and not driven Fast or hard. Considering you took more off the flywheel then you added with the shim. That shouldnt be a major issue but with aftermarket clutches they do have a issue with engagement points and its a PITA to deal with.

You may need to get an adjustible master cyl in order to get a ideal point for you.

.030 is a lot to take off of a stock flywheel. My honest suggestion would be to get a new flywheel. If this is not an option you can shim the flywheel istself...other folks have done it...though this is not something that we recommend as it is not ideal. By removing that much material/thickness you have effectively changed the overall geometry of the assembly and thus you will always have a low pedal engagement. Let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks!

.007 is barely skimming the surface. barely.

Damn this is old, it was a WELL known tranny shop that knows their ****, they check for warping after they turn it and it was flat as its going to get, you only want to take off whats needed. When you take your heads in for a re-surface they only take off .005-.010.

im not saying you needed more taken off im just simply saying that its almost barely scraping the surface. i watched a machinist turn one yesterday and removed .005 and it just barely scratched it. hot spots were still very noticeable. he took off another .005 making .01 total and hot spots were still very noticeable. this was a 30k flywheel.

Yea it all depends on how hard the stock clutch was driven

I had my stock flywheel turned .020 and after doing some measuring i did not need a shim. I had .070 from the pressure plate with the slave fully conpressed. Ram says if your within .125 your fine. I did have some issues with my first slave though. Bought it off of e-bay (made in mexico) It would enage right off the floor and stick all the the time. Replaced it with a new GM slave and problem solved. Engages about half way up and doesn't stick like it did before.
