Default How do I adjust my linkage

Recently I've been having problems shifting into 5th gear. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with my linkage, because when I throw the shifter fairly hard into 5th it shifts perfectly. But when I preform a more casual shift, the gears grind. I don't think it's a syncro because it doesn't matter what RPM I'm in when I shift. A hard shift gives me a perfect shift every time.

This seems to be consistent with my linkage being out of adjustment. And if so, how can I go about fixing it?

All the linkage is internal to the transmission. There are no axdjustments.
Your gonna need to get into the internals of the trans & inspect it.
It could be something simple like shift fork pads or more like a syncro issue.

toploading manuals have no external linkage to adjust.

this is not a FWD car, not is it a Muncie.

Its also not a top load manual. That would require a top cover. T56s are end load boxes.

So the whole tranny needs to come out to fix it?

I can't just take off the shift boot and get to it that way?

no you cant get to much of anything just by taking the shifter off. you MIGHT be able to fix whats wrong under the car from the back of the transmission. . . . . .

It would be WAY easier to work on it after its removed from the car.Yes, it would have to be torn down.
