Default New Illinois Speeding Laws for 2011

30+ over = $1500 and possible jail time.

40+ over and it's $2500 and you get to live with Bubba for awhile.

I think it's time to cash in and sell the car.

I've heard this law was possibly going to happen, and I can't help but wonder why...

All this means is that if you see flashing lights behind you when you're going 40 over, you might as well put it to the floor and keep going. No reason not to when you're already guaranteed jail time.

In Illinois I don't think there's a speed limit sign over 65mph, and just about every single car can go 105mph... doesn't mean they're racing, maybe they just wanna get somewhere fast.

I try to avoid going 30 over if at all possible. At the very least, only go 29 mph over

If you're already going that fast you probably have the skills to do a little more..

Anyways that's the point I'm trying to make, this law might prevent some car guys from having too much fun on highways, but for unfortunate others it is going to make the streets much more dangerous when cops try to pull these people over.

Can we have a ******* autobahn yet?

Yea Id agree keep the racing on the track until we can get a new governor who will increase some of these roads to 70 like they have in almost every southern state.

WOW! That's some BS right there man!
IN is cracking down too, but they are just doing it in other ways. They have alot of undercover state police cars out now. they have Multiple newer Mustangs, a yellow 94 Firebird Formula, a few chevy SUV's on 22's, and tons of other vehicles as well. Plus they have stepped up patrols as well all over. We have yet to get anything else as far as laws, but who knows what kinda BS the government will come up with next. They only do this **** b/c we as a nation can't stand up and voice our oppinions as a large group. Therefore they do what the fu(k they want. It's BS.
I mean, In all honesty I agree with not going 30 and 40 mph over the speed limit, but when the speed limit is 50 on a highway, are you serious. ??? WTF. In IN, we have 50 and 55 mph speed limits inside the 465 loop, and when you get out of the loop it goes up to 65 or 70... It's retarded, and yet Cops sit everywhere just to pull people over. Every morning ppl get pulled over on my way to work. 90% of the ppl pulled over are flowing with traffic at the 70 mph range, but it's posted at 50 mph...
Sorry I had to rant too... but the new ILLINOIS laws are just stupid. As with the new ohio, and the old California laws too. Street race in California and they sieze/crush your car on the 1st offense.

Thanks Alot US Government, we pay your wages, and you just always find more ways to FU(K us.

I have a better idea. How about some reasonable speed limits on our expressways? 65-70mph would be more reasonable; the current 55mph is unreasonably low.

At that point, 30 over would be 95-100 and 40 over would be 105-110, and then the stiff penalty would be more acceptable.

As bad as IL is, for the most part (other than some gun laws) it's FAR better than CA.

If I had the choices of A-Going to jail or B-Most likely get away, maybe get caught and face slightly worse charges depending on what you did to try and get away, I would take B every single time.

I've never understood the strick laws on street racing and speeding, the amount of deaths per year is a TINY fraction of drunk drivers yet they do almost nothing about that. They should be allowed to sit in bar's parking lots and bust everyone that's drunk and starts to drive their car (not just getting in it, but starting it and starting to take off so they know they were actually going to drive off). MOST (not all) people that are speeding are paying way better attention to the road than people with their cruise set talking on their phone/texting/eating/whatever else, so why give them the same kind of fines they are giving to people that can hardly walk yet jump behind the wheel?

SOOOOO true...lmao...exactly what I was thinking. California has to be the worst state to live in ever. We can do whatever we want to in Iowa I'm suprised me and some of my car buddys are still alive let alone have driver's lisences.

.

What a bunch of morons. There is absolutely no reason to ever go 30 over on any road.
You might think? you are some badass professional racecar driver, but the guy in front of you is not.
It is probably some normal family, mom with kids, ect and the difference in speed is something they will definitely not expect.
If you need to show off for some stupid buddy of yours, or some little cutie, go to a track of some kind.

Say what ever you want, but some idiots reply trying to justify that 30 over shouldn't be a big deal,
means less then nothing to me, and I don't debate with the mentally deficient!!
Especially something that is so obviously correct, needed, and should be an even bigger deal.
30 over, automatic & immediate suspension, no excuses.
As the police officer interviewed said, even going to a hospital, 30 over will not get you there that much quicker,
and might not get you there at all!!

Almost forgot. The reason for the 55 is supposed to be for congested area's only.
Did everyone see that they raised I-355 to 65 mph. They did their test, and decided it was safe for 65.
There is a reason for why they do what they do, even though I don't agree with some of the limits either.

.
