If anybody wants to know the alcohol amount in their batch of E-85, let me know. I just picked up a slick tester from summit.

I just recieved it, and i havent had a chance to see if they have switched over to summer blend.
Just heard from a guy in another board that he was picking up drums of e-95 for around 150 bucks. That would be good enough to add in for extra octane.

I still don't understand people doing E-85 when meth is much more cost efficient and easy.

My $12 of meth I paid for lasted me for 2 years of driving (and I still have some left). Not only that but I don't have to worry about were to get E-85 or changing tunes based upon when the octane level changes (as they have different blends different seasons). Not to mention E-85 has been known for its corrosion and destruction of parts in your fuel system.

There are other sides of the argument as well, but I MUCH prefer meth injection to E-85 or race gas.

meth is not good for the coating on my twin screw. also, its a PIA to inject below the blower.

Even with straight E-85, you can make more power than on 91 octane plus meth injection. You just have to have the fuel system to support the added volume. Add in methanol injection (in my case to cool intake temperatures), and you can make even more power.

IMO, when you start relying on the methanol injection as a fuel, then it gets hairy. Too many variables- ie pump quit, controller goes out, plugged nozzle, boost reference comes off, etc.

The corrosion issue really isn't one. The only thing with E-85 you have to look out for is the blend, but that can be compensated for.

I'm converting to E-85 as soon as I can afford to put a bigger pump and lines on the car.

Like I said, theres the other side of the argument.

I do agree that you have to watch out for relying on meth, but there are failsafe's like running a light into the car letting you know when the pump is running, and wideband 02, and conservative tuning. Snow Performance offers a "safe injection" system that actually bleeds of boost if the system senses the meth isn't working.

The two biggest cons I see towards E-85 is that not everywhere offers it. Meaning if you were on a road trip or someplace other than where you know exactly offers it, it may leave you in a pinch if you needed E-85 to do some WOT driving. That, and the different blends = different adjustments needed in the tune = you are always going to have to be tinkering with a tune and don't have something you can just put gas in and drive.

Ben, you have some very valid points. Meth injection is a great way to overcome octane deficits in pump gas.

How i plan to overcome E-85's deficits
* Keeping a fuel tester on board the car at all times
* 2 tunes- 1 pump gas, 1 Ethanol
* Picking up a couple of E95 drums to get me back up to my tunes required octane
* incorporating dual knock sensors into my tune to catch and pinging and knocking
* If i ever decide to upgrade to one of the big boy blowers, I may pick up one of the perimeter style meth injection kits. They fit directly between the intake and blower.

So when will you have the Mach out? We've been getting a pretty good turnout at Liberty and Ricerworld. We need some Lucas style **** talking.

Seriously though, you might want to consider an EGT; knock sensors are less useful on e85 due to it's octane, it can often melt things (like pistons) before it knocks enough for the sensors to pick it up appreciably.

I take it that tester is long enough to fit into the tank from the gas cap? I'm assuming it's some type of hydrometer? We use those on the bikes to test the alcohol/nitro mix percentages.

Lucas style **** talking? Ha ha! Somehow, i don't think thats a good thing to do.

The tester is not long enough to dip into the tank. You add water to the tester and then a specified amount of test fuel. Shake it up and watch where the non soluble line forms.

I tested some fuel at UPS last night. Found that we are running between 15-20% alcohol content. That may explain why my trucks are down on mileage lately.
4.3 v6 - 5-6 mpg
6.0 v8 - 8-9 mpg
8.1 v8 - 7-8 mpg

Has anybody heard of oiling issues with the 8.1 v8 motors? I had one in the shop last night for an intermittent accell pedal sensor problem. While test driving the truck after the new sensor installation, it was only making 3-5 psi oil at idle. i was getting 18 psi running down the road and at WOT it was making 30psi. Is this normal for this motor?

just fueled up at the gas station on coldwater and Wallen roads. E-85 is more closer to E-90. Just a heads up.

Rear showed up today. Heading over to Nate's later to help install. Only took 8 1/2 weeks. Not quite the 3-4 weeks he promised, but still worth the wait.

Still waiting on the rod ends and offset bushings from MWC. Should be here tomorrow. My Nitrous Outlet all-in-one solenoid bracket should be here tomorrow, too. Gettin' close to puttin' some fire in the holes...

I have two 305/35ZR18 Nitto DR's I might let go here in early May. They are still pretty new (85+% tread left). I'll sell them for $200. Let me know if you are interested.

All these projects are looking good guys, keep up the good work. Too bad I sold mine off mid winter. Now I'm moving south to where it is warmer and a job promotion.
