I was in maintenance only in the civilian world, so I can't speak from the military side, but do it if it interests you. I enjoyed my time in maintenance and learned a lot of **** that I can apply in the real world, unlike Airman Snuffy "handing out basketballs at the gym". Don't choose something because it's easy, choose it because you like it and you can apply it in the future. Nothing worthwhile is easy.

I do ATC in the AF and this career field is in demand both active duty and on the civillian side...good skill to get paid to learn and can carry over to a usefull skill to use when you get out. I love the job, we have good hours, we have legalities keeping us from working more than 10 hours and more than 6 straight days...although my typical work week is 35 hours or so. If you do decide to reenlist...we high one of the highest reenlistment bonuses available throughout your career not just for 1 reenlistment. So consider ATC if you like a/c and heat and not slaving countless hours away from your home. We also deploy less.

Additionally we have one of the career fields that has almost every base available to go to. Think about if you were a C130 or F15 crew chief you could only be stationed at bases that have those aircraft

Kurts right. Im a heavy crew chief and life sucks because you are gone and you have to work in the elements. You also get burned and as a jr guy you have to dump human **** and feces. But the things that I have experienced in my career I will never change.

So how is the stress? I've read books on ATC, but have never actually gone into a tower yet. Should be in a few months. But, I'm really considering cross training into it. I wanted it as my original job since I've been in but my ASVAB score was 1 point off.

if you come into a service, try as an officer. the army has a program that you can come in as a warrant officer and fly helicopters. i work on helo's currently, and it is a very fun job to be in. i know the AF has HH-60's for CSAR, so you could try to be a CC with that field
