if down range you also get leave tax free. Meaning you go on leave, and you have a little more money in the bank. I had 14.5 days, i took 14 and saw my les the next pay cycle and it had almost all my taxes back in my check.

Non chargeable leave is already in effect. No one from my unit has been charged in over 7 months. It requires at least 9 months deployment and goes DOD wide soon. They still take your tax free leave days. I hope that changes too.

you have to do i think its 260 days deployed then you get your r&r non chargeable, and you get to keep your combat leave, but it only applies to certain areas in country. at least for the Marines that is how they're going to work it not sure about the other branches we have a MARADMIN that just came out this week giving all the specifics on the new policy.

I didnt get charged for my midtour in November. The guys at KAF said to hold onto our leave packets and if we do get charged we just give them our packets and theyll make it right.

I think you guys are talking about different things,

The time off after a deployment (1 week for every 3 months) is non chargeable and always has been

The time off DURING a deployment (that requires 260 days to get) used to be charged, now it wont be.

Different branches, different rules. Hell, different units in the same branches, different rules.

After my last 15 month deployment, had all leave charged. The DOD now sees it fit we don't get charged the 15 day R&R for mid tour leave. So you're still supposed to get charged your block leave after deployment, just not your mid tour leave. It says right there those using the R&R program, which is only used for mid tour leave.

The policy went into effect March 22nd I'm looking at the memorandum right now. Only applies to Iraq and Afghan and will be need to be "re-certified" every 2 years. It is officially called "NCR&R" (Non-Chargable Rest & Recuperation).

As stated above it only applies to Mid-Tour leave.

This policy is NOT retroactive so will only apply to those that will be taking leave after the policy date which again is 22March2010.
