Hey this is my first post on ls1 tech, so im not real sure where this should be posted but anyways, i was watching one of the videos of the lg race car, i think its the grand am cup corvette, and i was wondering if anyone knows how they get the unique sound out of it, i know its an all out race car, but is it mainly the header design or the spinning of such high rpms or added cubic inches or all of it together. Any posts would be appreciated thanks

Our LS1's will never make that same type of sound. Biggest reason is that the motor in the LG vette is 306ci (if I remember right) and has around 13:1 or higher compression ratio with an insane cam through straight pipes for the most part. The motor is in the 600rwhp range in a car that is barely over 2500 pounds. Crazy fast car though.

What if you destroked our cars to a 302 like the one chevrolet made and turn high rpms. I wonder how that would sound with a big cam and open headers or a true dual exhaust. Do you know of any company that makes a kit to destroke our motors. I just think it would be bad to have a street car sound the way that thing does.

310ci when in Trans AM form, reving to 8800
358 when in Grand AM form, reving to 7500
CRD Engineering out of North Carolina is the engine builder. Not sure of the specifics on the cam or heads.
Why the engine revs so fast is because of the pancake size clutch!
I've had the pleasure and honor to "crew" for them while testing. I've also spent several hours prepping the car for a race.

Thanks for the info. do you know where in north carolina they are located, i actually live in north carolina and if they arent too far away i may end up taking a trip up their one day to check out their facility and services. Do you know if they are big into Ls1 tuning or buildups.
By the way have you ever got a chance to drive that beast.

Ahhh...The Sound! Its Music to my ears!
Here is 2 links of it at the strip...who care what it ran, but that sound!
http://users3.ev1.net/~vettefolk/xtr...g_fsvt2001.wmv
http://users3.ev1.net/~vettefolk/xtr...fsvt2001_2.wmv
Where do I begin? Valve size/bore stroke/ ect I am not at liberty to reveal.
The 310 CID engine is what the 2 videos above have, Limiter @ 8200- mandated by the Trans Am Series. It has VERY lightweight internals, and the HP is ~ 592 to the tires.
the 358 is much beefier, heavier parts because it has to go the distance- 3hour, 6 hour, and even a 24 hour race. Imagine that Its heavier over all, and has lots of lowend. It can be spun to 9k, but peak power is @ 7800 with the endurance cam in it. Cant make it last 24 hours spinning it to 9k
NOW, the exhaust setup is comprised of non-stepped 1 3/4 TRI-Y headers, dumping into a 3.5" collector. After that, each bank is then dumped into a single 5" Y pipe (Same size exhaust as a semi trailer ) and one single exit out the passenger side
Here is a Pic of the car belching flames at the Paul Revere 250 in July. We ended up winning that race

Yes the sound is music to my ears too.
Also where is CRD Engineering located in North Carolina and do they do a lot of LS1 work.
Heres another question for you if you were to run a stroker LS1 of some sort 382 or possibly 422 or 427, and you ran a similar exhaust to what you are running would it have a similar tone to it.
Thanks for the info, your cars are insane

CRD does NASCAR/Bush/truck/and Trans-am series stuff only. No ls1 stuff at all. No tuning either. Stricly a race car machine shop. Their shop rate is something rediculous too, ~ 200/hr. A Brand new, dynoed only engine for a nascar truck is ~48,000. yup, forty eight thousand dollars! And just think, It has to be rebuilt every 800 miles
Now, For the sound, Yes, you can make them come close to similar. Our cars always have that high pitched, 13k rpm sound to them

There are videos out there of Lou taking a jaunt down a 1/4 mile drag strip running a 12.0@130 or something like that, nailing the brakes and turning in the first turn off (the Jr. Dragster turn off)
