A Good Reason to Carry a Working Fire Extinguisher in Your Car...

This might be painful to some of you to watch. Just imagine if it was your car. I think it goes without saying that we should carry fire extinguishers in our cars, especially once we start modifying.

i had a friend with a 5.0 who caught on fire once... it was a spark plug wire too close to a header. long story short I was actually able to **** and kill most of the fire and we were able to smother the rest. my friend burned his hands/arms real bad. Its pretty funny I pissed on his engine but it was some serious **** at the time. I remember how crazy it was... it was like a plastic and rubber "web" burning which was very hard to put out, and basically if i wasnt able to make it die down a little it would have been too big to stop and im sure his car would have been up in flames.
so anyway i carry a small extenguisher now, its a little insurance everybody should have

How is watching someone prized possession go up in flames funny?
I had a 71 Chevy Cheyenne 1 ton go up in flames. I had an extinguisher and managed to put it out before the whole truck went up in flames.

It looked like the extinguisher they had didn't work. They are always nice to have and they don't have to be mounted to the pillar. Cheap insurance. Here are some pictures of a Firebird that caught fire and he had no extinguisher. We got there within a couple minutes, but thats not quick enough.

I dunno, as soon as I saw those small flames in the engine bay I would've ripped my shirt off trying to remove the oxygen from the flame. Didn't seem like they tried very hard
And we all know how effective blowing on a flame is..

That truly does suck. However, I have to agree with BBC572 - it looked like they were more interested in filming it versus putting it out. A shirt, soda from McD's or pissing on it would have put it out plus they had an extinguisher which it looks like they didn't use.
You can bet if it was my car all my clothes would be off and I'd be pissing on it to get the fire out. Always carry an extinguisher!

Good point too, you can get a mini extinguisher and just put it under your seat or back in the hatch area. It only weighs a few pounds too. I am definitly ordering one soon.

yeah when my friends car started the fire we immediately took off our main clothes and tried smothering it but the nature of the fire made it too hard to put out, it just kept going. Thats why my friend had bad burns all over his hands, and a piece of burning plastic flew on his chest and made a nice little hole. luckily i was able calm myself down and use my resources and that helped put it out a lot.
anyone who jokes around about car fires obviously has never had any experience with one
btw I got one of those ABC small ones thats meant for automobiles i think. it comes with a mounting bracket that has velcro and fits perfectly on the right side of my t top storage area, by the spare tire wall.
Be careful about laying it around unsecured in the backseat area, objects are proven to be dangerous if they can fly around in a crash, just mentioning this.

It really sucks for the guy, I feel for him. I remember reading his orginal thread. I believe that something against the down pipe caught fire, it was something along those lines.
I always carry my 2.5lbs halon bottle and I just invested in a full halon supresent system with a 10lbs bottle. Well worth the money if you ask me.
