I highly recommend a torque converter and tranny cooler. Problem is the best bang for the buck street/strip verter out there is the TCI SSF3500 and it runs about $525.00 + shipping. Then you need another $75 for a tranny cooler and 125 for a shift kit if you want to do it right. Now add $350 for installing all that and your up to $1075.
Just a little over budget but it's hands down the best mod for any A4 LS1. You'll lose all the dead spots and shave a full half second off the 1/4 mile time. I would sit on that $500 and add to it until I had the $1075 saved.
But if you must buy something now then the next best idea is a set of Pacesetter headers with ORY pipe. You could get hooker headers but then you won't have enough left over for the ORY.
So I say save for converter or get some reasonably priced LT headers.
