I'm going to start putting togather a new motor come tax return. I have 2 motors im trying to choose from ls2 or ls7 I want the ls7 but seems more expensive and ls2 seems closer to what I have now so the switch wouldnt be too diffrent. Can anyone tell me if any of the parts on my current ls1 which has stock parts for the most part except the cam/intake is interchangeable onto the ls2 or ls7? and when I say parts I mean everything tranny, radaitor, heads etc. And has anyone done a ls2 or ls7 swap and can give me some tips and if there was anything about the car you had to change or if it just bolted right up? Thank you anyone who replies.

Do a search. Lots of GenIV swapped completed. There are many differences. A stock LS2 probably is not worth it. Many build a 402 (4" stroker crank in LS2 block). Stock LS7 would be a nice upgrade, too. Look at Katech's LS7 project car. I believe they are running high 10's with that combo.

LS2 is much less $$$ and less a PIA. More stuff can be swapped over like heads, IM,TC cover, oil pan and the list goes on and on.... A reluctor and a couple sensors + extentions and your good to go with the LS2...
I would like to do an LS2 but will prolly go 383 cause it is even simpler and less $$$...........

are you going NA or FI ? the ls7 has pretty thin cylinder walls and it is not very ideal for boosted application, and before people start to argue with me, Gm was considering the ls7 with a supercharger for the zr1 but they dismissed it due to the thinner cylinder walls. i know people still do it (lingenfelter offers short block with low CR) but i like to be on the safe side.

Thanks you guys I'm am thinking I would like the motor to put out 450hp to the rear... maybe later on I could throw on a supercharger or something. I was looking into the stroker and I was thinking maybe I should look into it a bit more the ls7 is way too expensive the type of ls7 I would have to build wouldnt be right. Ls2 is doable but I could probably find a ls1 bare block and build a stoker that puts out more power than the ls2 So i think i am going to take bad's suggestion. If anyone has any good stroker kits they have used or seen used that puts out about 450 rwhp please let me know

I'm willing to bet I'm over 450rwhp with my current setup.
I think that you could probably get a 383 LS1 to get over 450rwhp.
LS7's are a pain in the *** to work with because of all the little things associated with that Engine. That Dry Sump System is nice on that car, but you have to squeeze it into an F-Body.

yeah I was thinking finding a bare 2001 2002 block the piston slap is not suppose to happen on those year blocks right? adding the stroker kit adding a biger cam than I already have. I want a fast 90/90 intake but they are so expensive I'll probably have to stick with my stock throttle body and my bbk ssi intake.

BTW my 98 T/A had no piston slap/oil usage issues at all when it was stock. I don't think I could hear it now anyway over the mods

Blocks have nothing whatsoever to do with piston slap. It was the piston design/alloy/bore fitment that caused that issue.

I have always heard the 01-02's were more prone to it but IDK for sure.....
