howling noise???

Default howling noise???

when i start my car sometimes it makes a howling noise for about 20 sec then goes away. i was wondering what it was. any opinions?thx

its not really violent but its loud enough to hear it pretty well.

my friend has the same problem with his ss and he said it might be the water pump? is that right? is there any computer thing that i could hook it up too so that it could tell me the problem forsure?

The water pumps on these are cam driven. On my lt1 it made a loud wine every time the thermostat opened

Or you have a loud steering box but that would be all the time

is there anything that i can hook my car up to see what the exact problem is? like would anybody know if the dealership might have something?

To see if it's the air pump just pull the AIR PUMP fuse under the hood and see if it stops. It'll probably throw P0412 and the SES, but after replacing the fuse it'll turn off after a few cycles.

the noise doesnt happen all the time. just once in a while. and when it does its only for about 20 sec.

Just something to check/eliminate it as the possible cause. Pump usually runs on cold starts, is that when it happens?

when it does happen its mostly on cold starts. but once in a while itll happen after like 50 min of sitting.
