Unhappy coolant bubbling

Ok if I drive my car to the store and back and pull it into the garage my coolant like bubbles. You can hear it but it doesn't flow out of the resevoir. Now my question is as to why my engine is getting that hot for it to bubble??? Do I need to flush my radiator. Also my engine seems pretty hot at times for such short trips.

thanks for any advice
Mike

What does your temp guage read? The obvious sounds like a bad thermostat. Does it just heat up driving around town/ on highway?

Mine did the same thing yesturday. I did a complete flush and took out the thermostat to see if it was stuck but everything is okay. I just took it into the dealers this morning... I'll let you know later on tonite once they find out what's going on. I got the same problem u did. Once i shut off the engine I can hear it boiling when you open the hood u can feel the coolant in the hoses bubbling. The temp gague stays at 210 and it get's a tad above that... but the needle doest get pass the 210 mark.

I'll let u know what the dealers find out.

i'd suspect if you were overheating you'd throw a check engine light?

update on my camaro....

Dealer called and told me that need the car for one more day so they can order a radiator cap. The one on my car is not holding the pressure. So once they get the new cap they will run another complete diagnostic and let me know tomorrow.

I'll write back again tomorrow. Hope this helps....

Low coolant will cause bubbling as will loose/leaking cap.........among other more serious things.

Yup... it's confirmed... the dealer just called me 5 min ago and told me that it's the radiator cap.... it's not holding the pressure so it's boiling but not overheating.... everything else check out... and yeah.. like some others said.. a radiator cap is a lot cheeper and easier fix than a head gasket...

I'm just happy it's something simple.... never like to leave my car at the dealers but since it's free for another 3000 miles i use it as much as i can before the warrante is over...

Good luck with your problem... hope this helps...

I have one that I bought and never used its still new in the box, I think I paid $500.00 for it Ill let it go for $350.00.

(note this is a high performance led equipped platnium radiator cap good for 100+ hp)

Probably about 20$ or so from gm.

Yup, if the rad cap isn't holding pressure, it will drop the boiling point of your coolant drastically and cause it to boil much quiker. And, yes, these temp gauges are fairly innacurate. Just as a thought, there are a lot of "stupid" little things that can cause you to overheat all of a sudden. Last week, my coolant temp just skyrocketed on my way home from work. It was hot around town, on the freeway, everywhere. I get home, get underneath the car, and see I have sucked up a plastic bag with my air dam, and covered the ENTIRE surface area of the radiator. Unlikely, but little stuff like that can happen, and you rearely even consider it.

Good luck
Jeff

I was hopin it was around 15-20. You never know with dealers and the shipping cost for a bolt now a days.

you expect 20 but end up paying 150

When cold check your coolant, top up if necessary, low coolant can cause bubbling.

Also don't forget to bleed the cooling system when you change thermostats or air in the system can cause overheating problems.Take the retun hose from the throttle body that goes into the radiator off and slowly refill the cooling system and any trapped air will be bleed out then replace the hose back on the radiator.
