Default shorty hp vs long tube hp?

Ok I'm installing magic stick3 110lsa cam in my 02 ws6. I want to know how much hp I will loose going with shortys over long tubes. I'm going with shortys because of ground clearance, and its a big issue because at my work I have to go over killer speed bumps and my exhaust already sounds like its ripping off when I go over them.

um alot. If your doing a cam swap, it isnt worth it go with shorties. Actually it isnt worth it to go with shorties ANYTIME over long tubes. Long tubes might give you around 20rwhp gain, shorties...maybe 5rwhp and thats being very generous.

Go with the right long tube and ground clearence will not be an issue. If I remeber correctly SLP's hang down very far. I have Jet-Hot long tubes which are hooker headers with the 02 bung moved and they are nowhere near the lowest part of the car. Some headers tuck up better than others, but that probrably means you will have a slip on design and not a flange design. Band clamp vs bolted flange with gasket.

my jet hots (same as hooker) dont cause me problems with low ground clearance. my SLP safety loop and my aluminum trans pan hang down lower than my headers. if you decide to go with shorties check out random tech cats and Y pipe to help flow. ps your stock cats are worth money (platinum) so dont throw away!

Get long tubes man, especially with a cam like that. If you have a different car to dive, take it lol. The right header, and right install of Y pipe and everything (like people were saying about band clamps) will help clearance also.

stock manifolds on the 01/02 engines were damn near shorty design to begin with. you won't gain much.

with the added hp of the cam, i can see you gaining 10hp from the shorties....but going from stock to LTs with a cam you could easily see 25-35hp.

some of that is from the removal of the cats and stock ypipe.

Kooks, QTP, the famous pacesetters (I have these). All of those are fine longtubes, pacesetters being the cheapest and they work great!

SLPs don't have the ground clearance issues anymore and aren't that bad of a header. They revised them a couple months ago, but i have not seen a set in person unfortunately though.

Screw the SLP's, they're a little late in the game to try to repair their reputation with the LS1 already phased out 7 years now.

Word of advice on the Hooker Supercomps, they are a massive pain to install. Had to jack the engine about as much as I could to put on the driver's side. I would do pacesetter long before those if I had to do it again looking for a bargain. Just my .02 though.

Ya, I just had a buddy install a pair on his 2000 WS6 and ya we had to undo the driver side motor mount and some other stuff. I was amazed how high the car needed to be jacked up, since my buddy does not a a actual lift. IDK really I might get the Hookers and have a shop install them for me.

Shorties suck. I had them and didn't gain ANY time at the track. I have Hooker super comps, but lucky for me I was putting heads and cam on at the same time so the install was easy, lol.

My hooker headers just slid easily up into the driver side. No issues at all...easier then I thought it was going to be, to say the least.

I would almost say go with Pacesetters. They perform the exact same, slide right in, and are cheaper money wise. Just my .02 though unless you feel like spending some money on Kooks or ARH. That and the welds on the primary tubes to the head flange keep breaking. Not to happy with the quality of the Hooker Supercomps I have.
