Default free ram-air mod

Guys I searched for the answer for this but I couldn't find anything. I just got my MTI clear lid with filter. I have heard about a free ram-air mod that can be done when installing the lid. Can you point me in the right direction. Thanks!
Car is a 2000 Z28 btw..

It involves removing the lower air intake assembly and cutting out the plastic to make a large opening. It is a required step for guys that run the Fast Toys Ram Air (FTRA).

Look on FAST TOYS website for their instructions online. It will show you what to do if you choose to do it.

I recommend against this mod, it's prone to heat-soak
the IAT while sitting (if no fan, suck up air off the rad).
Then you are stuck with pulled timing until you've had
airflow for a while, by which point the fun is over most
likely.

Ducted systems that draw from cooler locations are
better. The SLP CAI is not one of these. FTRA, SSRA,
and your dryer-duct homebrews are.

What little gains you may get are compensated by the constant replacement
(or cleaning) of air filters.
I would only cut the box if installing a "ram air" system, FWIW.
I did it 9 years ago, looking back I can't say it helped that much, but if you're
willing to keep a clean filter installed, I guess every little bit helps.

Not worth doing. I agree with more negative effects. I wish I never did it.

So let me see if I understand this correctly, is the ram air mod I'm getting answers to the one that's talked about in the bottom of this write up ?
http://www.gmhightechperformance.com...ons/index.html

Is this the one I should stay away from or is there two different air mods and the one in this article maybe should be done with a lid such as mine?

I have done it on two cars now. I can't say I saw that big of an improvement, but i also did not see any negative effects either.

Just to toss something else out there, I did the FRA mod a while ago and the car would miss the few times I drove it in heavy rain. Turns out it was pulling a good bit of water up into and through the filter and lid

Ended up getting a bottom piece that hadn't been cut out from a guy doing a turbo setup...

I also thought and wondered about this, that settles it NO to this mod. Just doing the normal lid w/filter. Thanks again for all the help!

I actually bought the SLP FlowPaq which involves in cutting under the air box. I noticed a difference on the highway when I had this done (was my first mod) and haven't had any problems.
