Default have some bolt ons, what next before H&C

Hi all, just wanted to get some opinions on what supporting mods or mods that would benefit me before going with heads and cam come summer.

Current setup:
01 WS6 A4
Nitto 555r 315's rear / 275's front
ARH LTH w/ Catted Y
Magnaflow Cat Back
Fast Toys Lid

I'm thinking that before I go with heads and cam(currently thinking the MS3or4 w/ Patriot heads) I should definitely think about supporting mods. My car is not a daily driver, just a weekend car that I want to build up over time to 500+rwhp and eventually go FI.

Items On my Radar:
3.73 or 4.10 Gears (whats pros and cons for each)
Yank SS 3600

So my questions for you guys that have been around the block
-Anything I'm missing or that you would recommend?
-Suspension, any quick recommendations for suspension upgrades for straight line performance?

373's and the converter you mentioned above will make your car a whole 'nother animal!!
Believe me, it did for me.

Could start sving for a fast 90 intake manifold if you are going 500whp eventually with head/cam or forced induction. Also a 9 inch rear would eventually be needed when the rear end finally goes. For now gears, UD pulley and a yank. I've heard 3.73's are a great all around gear and more practical where as 4.10's are more for the track. Maybe a supporting mod for your tranny like a tranny cooler?

A torque arm , stall and gears will probably knock off a full second in the 1/4 . 3600-4000 stall. If your camming it go for a 4000 . 373's seem to work well in a A4 . The torque arm will help you get to the ground . A set of lower controls arm wouldnt hurt either .

I would do the stall and start on the suspension. Might as well wait and do the underdrive pulley when you get a cam since it has to come off anyway.

This is great to hear guys. I'm liking the advice, keep it coming. FastEddie, what would be the pro/con going with the 4000 stall over the 3600 when I go with heads and a cam? My car is 90% street with maybe 10% strip. Is there much of a benefit with the 90/90 even though I have the ls6 intake when I go with H&C? I'm considering it when i actually do the H&C, but don't think there is much benefit with the stock engine.

Items On my Radar:
3.73 Gears
Yank SS 3600 or 4000
Underdrive pully(probably when H&C)
Torque Arm
LCA's

pros with 4000= harder launch, in rpm zone quicker, faster ET
cons with 4000= break more ****, worse gas mileage, less streatable..

if you go with a 90mm intake/TB..new it will be like 1300 bucks but you can pick up up to 30whp over the ls6 intake if the 90 is ported....(this would be with a H/C car....stock engine you might see up to 15whp tops i would guess.)

^I figure if I go with a 90/90 I will work it in when i'm doing the H&C work. I think I'm going to stick with the 3600 as this is primarily a street car so I don't think i'm going to launch to hard. As for LCA's and Torque arm, I'm looking at a the BMR Drag Race Rear Package Level one. Looks pretty decent, but I can't lie. I don't know much about suspension over all, just trying to cover all the bases and learn as I go.

3.73s + 3600 or 4000 stall will leave you very traction limited on street tires. I'd leave the stock 3.23s for now, and just do the stall. Plus, with 3.23s on street tires that stock rear end will likely last you a very long time, even at H/C level. When you want to move to the next level, maybe look at doing a better rear with 3.73s.

3600 would be nice for a primarily street driven car, but I would go 4000 if you plan to chase down ET at the track.

I'd look at ditching the cats when you do H/C, if you don't have a visual or sniff test.

3.73 gears, stall, and pulley don't forget an LS6 Oil pump and LS2 Timing chain.

yeah what all was said a 3600 and 3.73's will definitly let your setup open up. You will definitly need a rear end when you go h/c, i'd hold off on 90/90 until later.

For a 500 hp "all motor ?" car your going to need a healthy cam with a large duration . A 3600 stall is a great street/strip converter .A 4000 is not a strip only converter ,but it is more strip oriented .With a 220 -224 cam you would be fine with a 3600 stall. Your going to need a much larger cam ( @ 240 cam+or n2o ) for 500hp ,hence your power band will be more towards the higher rpms . This is where a higher stall would be more beneficial to get to your desired rpm range quicker and help keep you in your peak power area with a higher shift extension .Im going to be doing a 228-230ish cam with stock 853 heads and was told a ss4000 would work great for my combo .Mine is a 90% street car too . I am by no means an expert in LS1 power . Your best bet is to contact a couple of our great sponsors and talk it over with them .Good luck !

4K Stall.
Full suspension. (You did not really touch on this at all, and it's one of the most important parts of your whole setup)
You will need a few tranny hardparts.
Also, I'm sorry but I'm laughing at 500WHP NA, then stepping up to FI.
You need to do some reading. A 500WHP LS1 is Possible on an M6, but probably going to cost you near the same amount if you had just gone FI to begin with. You're talking top dollar on damn near every part.
Build a nice 400WHP combo, then spray it.
Don't build some NA monster with plans to only go FI.
Do it once, do it right, otherwise don't be surprised when you've doubled your money into the car.
Also if you want power anywhere near that you will need a rear and a built tranny.
Not to mention you will need a decent cam so a 4K stall is your better choice (unless you're spraying you may want it tighter)

Oh yeah, did I say suspension?
Suspension.

I would go with the SS4000 and an upgraded trans. Gears aren't really needed. With a good stall you don't need 500rwhp to be fast. You'll be surprised at what it will to with 350rwhp.

Not at all.

The 10-bolt will likely hold up for a very long time behind an H/C auto with rare track use and a street tire, especially if he keeps the 3.23s. Just make sure to avoid any wheel hop.

I appreciate the help and guidance guys. I guess my numbers of 500rwhp NA are a little high on an auto. I have no problems with beefing up the rear, trans, and even thought about doing a 6mt swap when my stock a4 gives out however I think that is still a bit down the road, but taken into consideration. I'm relatively close to finish line transmissions so when that time comes and the A4 is giving out I'll work with them on either an Built A4 or M6. For the time being is the non adjustable Torque arm and LCA's enough to keep power to the ground or should I be considering more for suspension? What do you guys recommend? Also, I'm thinking going FI down the road. Thinking procharger. Is there many people running the MS3 or 4 and patriot heads with the procharger?
