Default 2002 Z28 stock rearend

Just bought a 2002 Z28, has patriot heads, comp roller, ls6 intake, hooker long tube, edelbrock off road y-pipe and magnaflow exhaust.Walbro 255gph pump,36lb f.a.s.t injectors, and a 150 shot.(Getting tuned at speed inc. this month) Also 3500 midwest stall converter. My question is just how long will this rearend hold up?Old owner expected to see low 11s, high 10s. I heard the stock 10 bolt isnt very strong. The only upgrade to the rearend are gears and T/A cover. How strong would it be with aftermarket axles and say maybe a detroit locker? Any help would be greatly appriciated. thanks in advance

it can last 200 passes or it can blow apart on the 1st pass. just hard to tell. that 3500 stall and 150 shot wont help much

I destroyed my 10 bolt (sheered teeth off the ring & pinion + cracked the posi) when I was bone stock, and I did it on the street. However, I was a 6 speed which shock the entire drivetrain much more than an automatic will. That's not to say you won't break it with an auto, especially if you are putting down all that power and leave on the bottle and dead hook.

You are sitting on a ticking time bomb really. It might go tomorrow or 5 years from now. My advice would be to start putting funds away for a 12 bolt.

The steeper the gear ratio the more likely it is to break. If it's steeper than 3.42 then kiss that rear goodbye. Don't spray off the line.

If you don't spray off the line, it can last for a while. The TA cover should help keep the casing from flexing, which is generally what kills these 10 bolts.

slicks lessen the torque blow better then drag radials(DR).look in the rear end sections and find a vendor you like.

Just don't sit there idling and then PUNCH it off the line. There's some slack in the driveline that's taken up VERY quickly and puts the "shock" on the drivetrain.

Best to brake-stall it so the power delivery is smoother and the slack is taken up. The 10-bolt's weakness is the casing warps and hitting it with a lot of torque when it's just sitting there really twists it up and causes a not-so-optimal contact patch between the teeth on the gears. That, combined with the forces those gears are transmitting, causes the gears to shear or jam and explode.
