Default LS6 intake

Is there any way to tell if an ls1 car already has a Ls6 intake on it already without taking of the intake?I just bought an 98 TA and other popular bolt on mods are already done.Someone painted the intake an I was wondering if it is an ls6 ?How can I tell while its installed?

Unless you can find the part number on it.

LS6 intake does not have egr for starters...you can also look at the numbers stamped on it to verify.

Very easy, LS6 intake either won't have EGR, which is that tube that runs from the passenger side manifold to behind the TB, or that tube will be modified with a compression fitting behind the TB, the SLP `98-00 LS6 version. The stock EGR has a flang that has a single screw holding it, the SLP LS6 intake for those year models has what looks like a large brass nut that the EGR hose runs through that then screws on to a fitting behind the TB.

Take a pic and we can tell you for sure.

Best way to tell is to get the part number. Can't really go by the EGR fitting because early F bodies had EGR on the LS1 intake but SLP made intakes that were LS6 with the EGR fitting. On the flip side 01-02 F bodies had no EGR and were LS6 intakes, but early C5 corvettes did not have EGR and were still LS1 intakes. I remember people trying to pass early C5 LS1 intakes as LS6 intakes claiming they were LS6 because they didn't have EGR. So the best way to be 100% sure is to get the part number

Part number is on the drivers side right above the Head. Just about the middle of the intake.

Maybe I am misunderstanding this, but could a '99 SS have an LS6 intake from SLP? I thought only '01-02s had the LS6 intake.

i cant believe the confidence lacking in this thread. i'm an ls1 noob and i know the answer (at least i hope i do, or i might actually have an ls1 intake instead of an ls6).

look here dude. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LS6-I...Q5fAccessories

in one of the pictures you'll see the part number that should be on every ls6 intake. it's not very difficult.

12560688 would have EGR.. which would have ruled out LS6 immediately... that's all I was getting at. Sorry I am not smart enough to post in here, carry on.
