when its there it does trace the rpms and it does go away when the car gets fully warm but i very slightly hear it. but that could be my exaust leak.

But maybe someone else can chime in on this. Every car is different.

Based both on my own experience and from just guessing, I wouldn't think that going from 5w to 10w would matter much...especially in Florida since the weather is warm. My p/u truck orignaly had and suggests 5w30 but after about 30,000 miles I accidently switched to 10w-40. Twelve years and 150,000+ miles since then, I've still been useing 10w-40 in the midwest with some days in the single or negative digits and the truck runs fine, doesn't burn oil, etc, etc. Would it last longer had I used the proper weight oil? Maybe so, but after 15 years and 180,000+ miles on the original engine it still starts up, idles and runs as smooth as when it was new, so even if it died tomorrow, I wouldn't be dissapointed. Same thing with my semi truck/s. Granted I've never done a complete oil change with different weight, but have added just about every type and weight of oil in there inbetween oil changes on both cummins and detroit motors and never have had a lubricated part failure. Having said all this, most gearbox and engine shops I've talked to say to stick with either coventional or synthetic oil......but I think that has more to do with gasket and seal leaks then it has to do with lubricity. My Camaro with LS1 and 110,000 miles ticks when I first start it up but goes away after a few minutes. My guess is that your tick is either pretty normal, or if it is something serious, that it was there to begin with and wasn't caused by you changing the oil weight one notch. That's all I can add to this subject. Good luck!

That's a thicker than recommended oil, and you may
have some "lazy" lifters that don't pump up as well
with thicker oil. Or something. Might give it a little
while, and also see whether this goes away when
full hot.

Just some food for thought. I had a ticking noise on the passenger side of the engine out of nowhere. Took the exhaust apart soooo many times thinking it was an exhaust leak. Still heard the stupid ticking sound.
It turned out to be a slightly loose spark plug on that side. It was only a half turn loose. I snugged it tight and the tick was gone!
