Default Locking Gas Cap for 02 SS

Anyone know where I can get a high quality locking gas cap or fuel door for an 02 SS?

There is no such thing as a 'high quality locking gas cap', but any of your local auto parts stores should carry a locking gas cap.

I just put mine on last weekend. It's a genuine GM item, part # 22660006 and you can get it from your local gm parts dealer (or ACDelco dealer) or gmpartsdirect.com. It's absolutely identical to the stock cap except it has a lock on it. Trust me, it's just the job!

Hmmmm I do a search on GMPartsDirect.com and it shows that part # as being just $5.25. When I add it to the cart and check out it shows the unit is $15.60 and gives me part # 22720375 ?

How much did you pay for the locking gas cap?

gmpartsdirect has awesome prices... but they kill you on shipping. I find it easier to just go to the dealer because it works out to be about the same price.

I got mine from gmprtsdirect on April 10th and it was $10.50 including shipping. SupahRich is correct. I just went on gmpartsdirect and now it gives the price with shipping as $23.55 and now it says it's a special order item with a different part #. I don't really know what to tell you. Gmpartsdirect must have had a recent consumer-unfriendly revision of their prices or something. Sorry about that.

You have to be careful of what cap you get. If the cap doesn't seal properly it can and will set an EVAP code.

It seems that the 98's have a different gas cap. Anyone ever find one that will fit a 98? The later ones will not fit, I tried.

More than likely you won't find one. The majority of the 98 model year had different tank filler necks installed because of a strike that limited production of the original filler neck.

That sucks. I plan on getting the plastic tank one day from a 99 and up. I guess thats the only way I'll get a locking gas cap.

i guess if you have a 98 you could replace the filler neck with a newer style. wonder what the filler neck would cost.
