2.73s
I got a 00 Z-28a4 w/ 2.73s. SLP LM and SLP LID. Planning on some LTs and ORY in very near future. Wondering if i should change the gears, and if so, to what ratio? By doing this will i lose throttle response and streetibility???

I say keep the 2.73's. They are strong gears, good gas milage, and are easier to 'hook' on. Do a torque converter if anything, but you would lose some streetability (loose feel)

there was an article last month in super chevy where some of the top guys in ls1 f bodies said 3:73s in an a4 an 4:10s in m6 but they said to remember your rear isnt the toughest. The article was called ls1 do's and don'ts I think it was a good article.

Why not get better gears and converter at the same time? Aftermarket gears arent exactly expensive, I'd say its a good mod for the cost. I just picked up a set of 3.73s myself, quite a step over my current 2.73s.

I did 3.42's $150 for REAL GM gears (good deal?) brand spanking new.
$99 for a slp zexel torsen pull (good idea)
$99 for a deluxe ratech install kit
$xxx for install by a good mechanic so the shiz don't whine, break etc.
(can be expensive for someone who knows his shiz)
reluctor ring $15 if you don't have ASR(i did), btw.
Gears are a pretty penny DONE RIGHT. Of course you can get some cheap stuff
and put a cheap gear in, but dont cry when it whines after a few track events.
If you don't do alot of city driving you won't notice a converter past say 40mph. If you do alot of city driving(0-35) you will notice the converter being loose esp with a 2.73.
mpg will suck big ballz in city driving mode.
tci ssf3500 is a good choice if you are going to stay internal stock. If you go cam in the short future get a 3800-4000 stall fo sho.
btw when you do the TCI SSF3500 or verter , get a BIG *** cooler, biggest you can fit, get a transgo shift kit too. and tuning.

Street driveability is greatly improved with lower gears. 90% of my driving is in town; I ditched my 2.73s for 3.42s and love 'em. Definitely tougher to hook, though.
