Default ls1 oil pressure at 20psi is this low or dangerous?

I have a 87 mazda rx7 with an ls1 5.7 with ported heads, comp cam, headers, intake, ls6 intake mani etc... when i start car on cold start oil press is at 50ish then drops to 40 but after car is fully up to temp oil pressure is at 20psi at idle and if i hit throttle is goes up but everytime car is hot the oil pressure is at 20 which im afraid its too low or hurting my motor btw motor only has 40k on it any ideas and i did search but found noting like my issue sorry im new to ls1 tech thanks

Im new here to so i hope others will chime in, but i think you are just fine with 20psi at idle as long as it rises with your rpm. I believe i read that 7psi is the minimum oil pressure for the LS1.
I have a stock 01 LS1 camaro and at temp my psi is about 35 and goes up to 50-55 by 3500-4000 rpm

is it a mechanical (direct oil line from the block to the gauge) gauge or an electronic resistor-sender type?

i've seen a bad grounds make the electronics ones read funny

i am not sure i got the car like this but i will have to check but i probaly will put a oil pressure gauge tester directly on it and see if it reads same as my gauge - i feel 20psi is still low but one other thing i was thinking about was adding an oil cooler cuz it seems like oil temps might be getting to hot and thats why psi is lower than if its cold and psi is higher????

Just for reference. I have 96k miles on my unopened 2000 LS1 and it reads the following #'s on the stock oil pressure gauge.

Cold starts: 60psi
Warm idle: 40psi
Hot idle: 22-25psi
Highway cruising is 45-55 psi.
WOT pulls 70+psi at all times

Hope this helps.

I think you ought to get a direct mechanical gauge on there before anything else.

Ten pounds per 1000 RPM and you are good to go.
