Why spend $3k to build a 10-bolt when you can buy a great aftermarket rear, that will hold your 600rwhp just fine, for less? Also, which 10-bolt did they build in the article? A 7.5" or an 8.5"? The old 8.5" is vastly stronger than the 7.5" to begin with, but that's not what came stock in any 4th gen.
Your trans (4L60E) can be built to handle 600rwhp. Several builders now have units handling even more power than that. Some people prefer to go with a 4L80E conversion for even better durability, but it's a much bigger trans (more weight, more power to operate.)

I'm just curious where rpm is getting these rears for less than 3k lol. I mean quick performance does but you lose abs. Everywhere else is either right around 3k or above.
But I almost don't see where you could spend 3k on the 10 bolt. Even the articles about a max effort 10 bolt cost like half that.

We have sponsors selling 12-bolts for several hundred less than $3k to start. I really don't see how any 7.5" 10-bolt could be made stronger than this overall.

Do it right the first time. Get a ford 9 inch or strange S60 put in there and for the transmission, performabuilt has some good options.

Trans $2200
Converter $400
Rear end $3000

The guy that built my 4l60e is pushing over 800rwhp in his and has for years. He's built many that are running 8's and 9's in the 1/4 mile. It was $2100 for my build and it will handle what his will.
My buddy and I are both on the same transmission build and both a4 on the stock 10 bolt. I'm only putting down 529rwhp/529rwtq but he's between 650-675rwhp and been running his trans for a couple years and the 10 bolt has lasted the same. I'm going to be swapping motors so I don't destroy my stock one and ill be between 600-650rwhp until next year, then I'll be pushing around 750rwrhp. I will not change one thing and I think as long as I don't launch hard at the track, that the rear will hold with the thicker 2.73's and the t/a girdle cover. My buddy doesn't run at the track very often, but runs on the street a lot with no problems whatsoever.
If your trans guy knows what he's doing and the tuner does with the trans tables, then it will live. He wanted me to bring my by to check the tune out after I got it tuned because he's had tuners kill the trans before. But if you're going to be spending a lot of time at the track, then I would probably worry about the 10 bolt. Auto's aren't as hard on the rear ends and tend to last better, but as stated, there have been some that grenade under little power.

As RPM said, 3k is plenty for a good rear. I myself found a good used 4 channel 9 inch with torque arm, LCAs and panhard bar for 2k. Just search around for a good deal man.
