Question K&N FIPK Good/Bad??

There was a K&N fipk gen 2 open air filter on my Z when i purchased it back in June.

After reading a bunch of threads on this site about how K&N filter could be potentially bad for the engine by letting bigger particles in, i was wondering if i should opt to get rid of it and install a lid and other type of filter. i also questioned its performance since it will be sucking in hot engine air anyways.

later i will be installing a ram air type hood, so i suppose putting the air box back on will offer more benefits with the new hood.

Is it worth getting rid of or worth keeping? If it has ANY effects on engine life at all i will be getting rid of it ASAP! Anyone have any bad experiences with it??

I think its a nice piece, expensive though. I dont think it causes any harmful or excessive damage to the motor. I'd keep it over a lid.

just as good if not better than the lid. in a GM tech magazine they dynoed a stock 2000 SS at 286. was a little over 300,304 i think with just the FIPK. ive said that on another post. do a search, you will bring up all kinds of opinions.

i know it increases performance, but does the K&N filter hurt the engine any by letting in bigger particles of debris in? or is it perfectly safe to use as compared to other filters and a lid?

I have one on my motor. Haven't found any rocks in my oil pan yet. Seriously its the same filter that is used in the K&N filters that sit in the standard airbox when ppl have the usual lids. EXACT same filter material. I would just be willing to say, slightly more of it. It looks badass too. Much better then the stock peice, and still nicer then the lids you find.

It won't hurt your engine. I have a ram air hood with the K&N FIPK and no issues. The only thing you will notice is your IAT will rise quicker but it will also go down quicker once you are moving.

who told you the filter would hurt anything? as stated above by others everyone and their grandma use K&N filters in these cars. the different positioning wont make a difference in filtration.

Just don't over oil it when you re-clean it,like some people do. If you over oil it, then this oil will cake onto your MAF sensor and cause mis-readings and potential problems.
