Default Some questions about scambers/radar detectors

First of I live in the Communistwealth Of Virginia, so anyone from VA knows what I am talking about. We have the most **** and outregeous laws that I have heard of. Anyway. We are not alowed to have radar detectors and/or scramblers. I would like to get a scrambler, but the risk is a little too high if I get caught. Pretty much my only question is: Is a scramber detectable? I mean if it scrambles the radar signal, wont the cop know? Also what is the best one out there for a decent price that will do the job or getting most, if not all bands of radar?

Thanks
Fry

we use a variety of radars in Ga and there is no law against detectors or scramblers here. The new laser radars are so far unbeatable from what i have seen because you can aim a mile down the road point and click on who you want and they will never know they are being speed checked until you click the trigger. As far as detectors and scramblers go to be honest the radars sometimes can not get readings just for whatever readings. The older radars combine speeds sometimes if you are beside a semi when he clocks you and then 100+ mph pops up on the radar. So i dont think its detectable but Va might have different technology who knows but probably not. Id say drive close to the speed limit anyway unless you just have to kick the occasional mustangs a$$ then open it up some other then that go to the track to get the urge out but either way be safe.

unless the technology has changed since i've read at least 3 car magazine tests, those radar scramblers under $300 don't work.

the only ones that work are the ones that carpet bombs X & K band signals continuously and not those passive scramblers like the Blackbird, Phantom, etc.

they said the cop's radar will register "0 MPH" and he's going to take another shot to verify and might get suspicious as to what you're doing. and doing this should violate many FCC laws. also, you'll set off everybody's radar detectors in the area

in VA, if you're a resident, you will get a ticket (mine was $50 and no points) and they can confiscate your detector. make sure you go claim it, because if you don't (ie. it's a POS radar detector), they'll charge you some kind of fee for storing it (at least $40).

if you're not a VA resident, then it's just a ticket.

VA cops will also stop you if they think you got a detector. happened 3x to me. and one time i had an unpaid ticket from 3 yrs ago so my license was suspended. this was a big ticket. with the new laws, driving with a suspended license is a CLASS 7 felony. you will most likely go to JAIL too.

dunno how this would look if you applied for a job. you could be screwed if your criminal record shows a felony w/o indication that it was for traffic laws.

our new lasers are awesome just point and click like a gun so theres no confusion wether it was dude behind you or in front of you it really is put the dot on the guy you want to clock and thats it. They are very expensive though but will pay for themselves in no time and forget winning against it in court. I think most cheap detectors really just work on k-bands oh well just a bit more input.

yea the cop who nailed me was saying how this was the same technology used in the Gulf War's laser guided bombs.....dead on accurate.....blah...blah.

he told me all of this because i had asked him to show me the reading that i was doing 22mph over the limit...the incriminating evidence....

he said he erased it...doh....so in court my lawer got it knocked down to doing 5mph over the limit

Thanks for the input fellas. Looks like I am not spending the money on either a scrambler or detector, and just going on as I always have.

The only thing I'd get would be a Escort SRX with Shifting. Since the majority of agencies are switching to laser and radar jamming is illegal by FCC. The SRX "shifts" laser signals and will not result in a reading on the unit. The Mercedes dealership I work at has installed these on many AMG vehicles and my guess is they work cuz we haven't heard anything bad. ($1500+installation)

Running from the cops = dumb
Running from the cops in VA = really dumb

That aside.

All ACTIVE radar jammers/scramblers are illegal per FCC and other federal law. YES the cop will know he's being jammed. Yes your *** will be grass when he pulls you over.

All passive jammers like Phantom are FAKE. They're garbage that Little Mountain or whatever their current name is has admitted is garbage. He still sells them because he only gets a 30% return rate on them and he's making a huge profit by ripping of ignorant people.

the day i got the ticket that landed me in jail in VA was the day i forgot my radar detector in the other car.

and since it's illegal in VA, the cops leaves their Ka band on all the time which makes it so much easier to detect.

while the MD cops uses lots of instant on and laser.

about $1000 in fines and attorneys fees later, i could have bought 2.5 Valentine V1s
