It is not an EGR tube, it goes to the AIR system...just takes in air for that system to inject into the catalytic converter (after it goes through tubing/pump/etc). As long as it isn't dangling on the ground sucking up debris it won't hurt it to run it without a filter for a few days.
The EGR system is pretty much self-contained on the passenger side of the engine bay...It consists of that fat solenoid, a tube that goes into your intake manifold, and the tube beneath it that goes to your exhaust manifold. The EGR opens and closes to allow recirculation of exhaust gases for better emissions...it's unnecessary and many people choose to delete the system entirely (like myself).
AIR (secondary air injection) is also for emissions, it is a system that injects air into the cats while the car is still cold (and thus running rich) also for emissions, and also unnecessary. That's what the high pitched whistling is when you first start your car.

Hot damn he's right...was having flashbacks to my old LO3. I drove without the filter on the AIR Tube for a couple days, no problems, just go pick a breather up and you'll be good to go.
I'm having that whistling problem big time on startup, but also when using my AC....hmmm wonder what's causing it, sorry for the hi-jack, had that damn whistle on and off for months now!

I bought a used Volant CAI of this site for $175 becuase I plan on going to and SS hood and didn't want to deal with broken/ill fitting lids. That has nothing to do with this thread, sorry, heh.
Curious though...is the plastic for these lids significantly stiffer than stock? Is it the bellows, poor molding? Why all the fitting problems?

the clamps come undone when the tabs on the lid aren't all the way in,and the lid is not seated right.
as for the fitment... once the lid gets molded... its left to cool off and that causes it to get distorted ever so slightly(heat and cold expand and contract things)
how long have you had your lid for? it should fit better after taking it off and on a couple times....mine fits fine.

let me get this strait... complaints on a lid fitting SNUGGLY????
thats a good thing.... not a bad thing... if a lid is loose and slides in and around easy, then it is not sealing propperly...
