camaro vs corvette !!

I agree...1-2 tenths for the C5 coupe vrs fbody..it's a close race through the 1/4 mile and sometimes a strong fbody can pull the upset.
but a betting man would put his money on the C5 coupe with equal drivers...
Also the C5 tops out at 170-176 ( depending on magazine)
The fbody tops out at 158-163 ( depending on magazine)
So mn6 C5 vrs mn6 f body the C5 is faster in 0-60 mph..The 1/4 mile and has a higher top speed. It is the faster car..
Unfortunetly 70% of the C5's you see on the road are the automatic versions with 2.73 gears...
The C5 was made with 2.73 gears all the way till 2004...
The Fbodys were only made with automatic 3.23 gears in the last few years of cars...
A 2.73 C5 and a 3.23 fbody are a very close run through the 1/4 mile..
But a 2.73 geared C5 will normally lose to a mn6 3.42 geared fbody..
It is the 2.73 geared C5 vrs mn6 fbody races that people have seen and get the idea that the camaro/firebird is faster than the C5.

I don't know what you mean by saying the C5 was made with 2.73 gears all the way until 2004. You could get 3.15 gears with the automatic in every single year of the C5 from 97 to 04. My 98 has the 3.15s in it.
And what are you talking about when you say F-bodies were only made with 3.23s in the last few years? The 3.23s were available in every single year of the automatic 4th gen f-body from 1993 to 2002. My 95 Formula had 3.23 gears in it.

all things being equal the c5 will will due to the weight and drag coefficient advantage.

Is the drag coeffcient really that much of a factor in the 1/4? I wouldnt think that the vehicle would be going fast enough to make a difference, at least not at speeds below 109 MPH. The weight is definatly an advantage, and w/equal drivers I agree the Vette should take the win, but a majority of Vettes F-Body guys come up against on the street are older guys that have never take their car WOT but once or twice and lose due to lack of experience, that could be the origin of the F-Body is faster.

Yes it's true, a well driven LS1 Fbody with a stick will just barely beat an auto C5. But when you compare with the same transmissions, and the same drivers, the advantage goes to the vette. It makes the same amount of power (true dual exhaust, but the IRS eats up a little more), and is slightly lighter. If you come up against a 99-00 Fixed Roof Coupe, you would be in trouble because they have a 200+ lbs weight advantage. If you ever run into a Z06, you're going to need 40+rwhp more than he has just to keep up (only 3,117 lbs compared to the f-bodies 3,400+ lbs).

Stock for stock it's usually a drivers race. Also depends on dig or roll race.

if you're comparing straight line only! take the two cars on an autox or roadcourse and you're going to see a big difference.
And yes FRC are 200+ lbs lighter..... its the only way to go
