Default Lingenfelter Question

Hello,

I have owned two Camaros in the past few years. first was a '95 Z/28 LT1 A4 second was a '99 Z/28 LS1 A4. I sold both cars but have not gotten the bug out of me yet. I love the new Camaro but just don't have the patience to wait.

I have the oppotunity to buy a '99 LS1 6spd with Lingenfelter top end package. This car has just over 30K miles and is rate at 400hp. I would be using this car as a daily driver. The owner is firm at $15500 and considering the condition and quality componenets seems a solid car. Any thoughts?

I own a Nissan Armada and drive about 3500 miles per month. Am looking for something that gets better gas mileage than a 6,000 lbs SUV but is still fun.

Any thoughts/experience with this or similar set-up would be greatly appreciated.

That would be sick and it has 400hp. Thats good for starters. I would also recomend that you do a search on it to know exactly what is on it. The price is good in my eyes. So yeah basicly the same thing that 98TADRIVER and sidewayz28 said.

umm for one. 30k on a 99 model is terrific. way below ave mileage. second with that lingefelter package your not missing anything from what the 01-02 models have on you. and your paying for a car with 400 hrwp already. i would grab that in a heartbeat. considering 02 ws6s can still go for 20k depending on mileage and ta verts around 17-18k. thats a great price man.

my buddy has a 99 ta with a lingenfelter engine ect. he is pushing about 600 rwhp. his car is a BEAST! thought something happen to his pistons.. somehow a screw or some type of threaded metal material got into the engine and compltely jacked it up. and caused the one of the pistons to melt..........

but that was a mechanic error of some kind. those engines run good and are realiable. and lingenfelter has a good history of quality

Why are you sitting here asking if you should buy it?

If you can't see that you have a steal in front of you, then step aside junior and let a real enthusiast take the reigns of that bad boy.

On a side note, I hope you don't buy the car. It's been used sparingly it's whole life and obviously the owner has put alot into it. Now it will be guzzled like cheap beer daily by somebody that doesn't even know what he's buying!

yeah... that wasn't called for.

to answer your question though... I think it sounds like a good deal, just make sure the car wasn't a weekend thrill seeker, and saw 30000 really tough miles. I'd rather have a car with 100000 highway miles, than 30000 racing miles! lol. BUT if you trust the owner, go for it!

no no no. i mean stupid of him to compare an 01-02 to a lingenfelter f-body having 400rwhp i meant it was funny you saying 400rwhp was good for beginners, that's alot but you and me and alot of others are probably use to that and the car feels fairly slow.

Camaro should get way better gas mileage. The Armada proly gets 13-14 MPG on a good day. The Camaro can get 25-30 with a 6-speed.

Default Follow-up and thanks

Thanks everyone for the input. I spoke with the owner last night and am going to go look at the Camaro tomorrow. The owner seems to be a really good guy. An older enthusiast who has the car garaged most of the time.

I appreciate the responses... sometimes you need that extra push to get over the "too good to be true" feeling.

FIREHAWK#608... where to begin? I would think that being part of an enthusiast web site you are open to sharing information. I honestly can't say I am all knowing and yes you probably know more about Camaros than I do. But at what point did I come off as disrespectful? I thought that there would be no better place to get the best information to assist in this decision.

"On a side note, I hope you don't buy the car. It's been used sparingly it's whole life and obviously the owner has put alot into it. Now it will be guzzled like cheap beer daily by somebody that doesn't even know what he's buying!"

Two points

# 1 - We are not talking about a one of one historically significant artifact. We are talking about a Camaro SS with upgrades. Let's drive these cars and show everyone what they missed by not buying these cars in the first place. The reason Chevy stopped selling the greatest perfoamnce bargain was not enough buyers. I would think most would agree that it is a shame the Camaro had to go away at all.

#2 - HOW DARE YOU BITCH ABOUT CHEAP BEER!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Really I may "not know what I am buying" but that is NO REASON to put down cheap beer.

Seriously all... Thanks for the assistance. If we ever run into one another I promise the first round of "cheap beer" is on me!
