I've got 6000$ to spend on a car...
Last night I let my friend drive my car. He took a turn going a little to fast, went over a bump and the back end kicked lose. The car spun out and flipped over sliding on the passenger side (where i was with no seatbelt, im stupid i know) we both got out with no injuries. Now that its all mostly over its time to start looking XD
I'm probably going to get about 6000$ for my car. The things I've looked into getting are LT1s and 5.0s. What other cars are good in that range? I really don't like the looks of LT1s compared to LS1s. (I guess the trans ams still look okay, but not the camaros)

Use it as a down payment on an LS1...you could find a good used 98-99 LS1 for prolly around 10-11K, shouldnt be to hard to get a loan that small...you will be much happier w an LS1 vs an LT1 or 5.0...

holy ****! see this is why i don't let anyone drive my car. newbs can't handle power and get too excited thinking they can. always lack confidence in what your car does. it keeps you safer.
uhh...i second the LS1...

Well if possible try to get an LS1. I seen a few around were I'm from (Bay Area, CA) go for about 9K+. You can save a few extra thousand and buy it cash. A Fox body 5.0 is a bang for the buck too. If you can go with the 5.0 get a notchback back style. They run like 4 to 5K though or a 87-93 Fox body GT for like 3,500 to 5K in a good condtion and have some money letft over for some bolt on's. The 94 95 model is cool too but they a little heavier then the 87-93 Fox. If you get lucky you might find a 93 Cobra for a good deal. Good luck and sorry to hear about the LS1 I know How you feel. I derstroyed my WS6. I curretly got a 88 5.0 that working on.

I picked up my 98 LS1 Formula for $6500 on ebay with 127,000 miles. It runs and drives like it has 40,000. Ran 13.74@ 105 stock. Added a lid, loudmouth exhaust, and 4.10 gears and ran 13.00@109.93 on hard street tires. You can find nice, cheap LS1's out there and I wouldn't be afraid of a high mileage car.

Lt1 trans am arnent that bad now are they?? I still love them. I cant hate on 5.0 fox bodys though, i like them alot too as well. I'd still go with an LT1 or try and congure up the most cash you can and get an ls1.

I think someone mentioned it but I would use the $6k as a downpayment towards ls1. That's what I did for my 99 bird. Fully loaded mint condition 99 T/A I paid $10,500. It had 43k miles. The deals are everywhere. Done settle for a high mileage ride unless you know its history. It can VERY easily kill you with maintenance in the long run (or short run).
I was originally in your exact position. I was looking for lt1 around $5k-6500.
A car is an investment. So I would take a small loan ($4-5K) and get yourself a nice ls1. You'll never regret it. LT1 and 5.0 are no slouches but an ls1 is really a great car. If you settle for less you'll probably get the mod bug and end up throwin just as much or more into the lt1/5.0 to be happy. Remember an ls1 is lid/exhaust away from 12s.

You might look into some LT1s...
My buddy has an '87 Fox. It's that Calypso green which looks pretty cool, but he's done full exhaust, shift kit, intake manifold, and cold air induction, and it's running a mid 14... If speed is your goal, a Fox will get you there, but it does take some work.
You can get an LT1 that fast from the box, lol. You can find a pretty good one for $6000 too.

What kind of car is your wrecked one? If you arent afraid of lots of miles then you could find an LS1 but an LT1 would be easier to find and have less miles. 5.0s are not near as nices as LT1's or LS1's but are cheap and easy to mod due to unlimited aftermarket.
