Does the LS6 PCV really make a difference in oil consumption or would I be just as well off with a 99 Z28 as a 01 Z28? Any owner input? 01's that guzzle the oil and 99's that dont or vice versa? Is it car or year specific?
Does the 01 Z28 with M6 beat the 99 Z28 M6 with = drivers due to the LS6 manifold (but lesser cam...)??
Did the tightening of the main-bearing clearances in 01-02 reduce knock and make for longer engine life and higher oil pressure??
Sorry for all the **** retentive ??'s but I am researching before a possible purchase in the future and if I can get a 99 Z28 with 35K miles se and pay the same as an 02 with 75K miles, and the years honestly dont matter, I would like to save the $$ Owners/tech's please help and thanks!!!!

haha. i dont think it matters that much. id personally go for the 01-02s though. its nice having a decent mod out of the way once u get it if u know what i mean? BUT- i would for sure get the one with the lowest miles. no reason to buy an 01/02 with 70k just cause of the year when u can buy a perfect 98-00 with less miles

`01-`02 LS1 don't have the LS6 PCV, it's the same one as `99-`00. I've had an `99 and now own an `02, they both pull from the valve covers. Neither had a huge consumption problem. I had a catch can on the `99 and maybe caught 1 oz in between oil changes.
`01-`02 LS1 *usually* dyno higher thanks to little bit better heads, exhaust manifolds and LS6 intake. You can *usually* say they are faster stock than the `98-`00. There are exceptions.
I have no idea about the mains being tighter on `01+ but the oil pressure reads the same in mine. My `02 does have piston slap until it fully warms up where my `99 didn't.
If it where 2 clean cars, 1 `99 with 35K and 1 `02 with 70K for the same price I'd probably get the `99; especially if you're going to mod it anyway.

Car will be left stock except for MINOR! bolt-ons. I just want what will make me the happiest in: Last the longest/perform the best/be the most reliable.
How much oil do LS1's use every say 3K miles? my crate motor'ed 5.0 (SNAFU in my opinion) uses 1.5-2 qts highway driving with 4.10's ever 3K.

LS1 oil usage can really range from car to car. For the LS1s that use a lot of oil, the PCV system isn't a likely reason. It may account for a small amount of the useage, but nothing significant.
Just to give you some perspective, I've had 3 LS1s (a '98, '99, and a '00) and my '00 car is the only one that used a significant amount of oil. The oil usage didn't get bad till the cam went in though. It would use about a quart in 800-1000 miles with hard driving. I had a catch can for the PCV system, but it barely caught any oil at all, so it must have been getting past the rings.
Assuming both cars were well cared for, I'd rather have a '99 with 35K miles than an '02 with 75K. On average, the '01-'02 cars are only marginally faster stock than their older counterparts.

If they are equal milage and the price isnt too significant then get the 01/02, 241 heads and LS6 intake are a lil better than the older 853's and LS1 intake. Although on the earlier years the cam was slightly larger so the heads and intake didnt make a HUGE difference. A 98 vs. 02 bone stock would be a drivers race through and through, the difference in power is minimal and there are so many more factors in the race. But like everyone said 99 with 35k on it (providing its not showing signs of getting the **** beaten out of it) vs. a 01 with 80k on it, go for the 99
