Default My headers make it too loud, what muffler sounds nice?

I have a 2000 WS6 Trans Am.

I installed my new American Racing headers yesterday, eliminated the EGR. The headers came with cats, and Y pipe.

Before the header install it had just a Y back SLP loudmouth 3" that appears to have a small resonator and I had stock manifolds cats and Y pipe.

I really liked the tone of the sound before the header install, it was a little bit loud but tolerable

NOW, it's insanely loud and it has more of a rapping Nascar old 350 type sound than the tight smooth sound it had before.

I'd like to install a muffler. I'm thinking Borla or Corsa.

Anyone have a similar setup that likes the sound? Anyone near me, maybe I could hear it, I'm in Verona, N.J.

Thanks
Mike

Pick up a borla xr-1 bullet muffler or a magnaflow round oval muffler and have either one welded into the place where the current slp resonator is. The slp LM resonator is just a hollow piece of pipe so thats why its so loud. I had it on my camaro with headers and ory and big cam (car in sig) and it was insane so I feel your pain.

i agree with him^^^^ do that or you can also do what some call a "Dynomouth" which is just a Dynomax oval race muffler. i have heard it before and really makes a difference. Go with this for sounds and for a cheaper way.

Yea, I couldn't even hear my stereo on the way home last night.

The American Racing headers were a nice fit though. Those coil bolts are a hump up by the firewall. My back hurts today.

Thats the slp LM I resonator, and its just a hollow pipe, cut that thing out of the systemand weld a borla xr-1, magnaflow oval muffler, or something of that sort and you will be a lot happier.

I had the SLP-LM on my 02 and I just had H/C and hooker-LTs and ORY-pipe with no cats and OMFG was it loud..

I had the stock cat-back still and put it back on with a cutout so now it is quite with the cutout closed and loud as I want it with the cutout open. And it does not sound bad at all.

Yup, my loudmouth resonator was replaced with the Borla XR-1. Sounds very nice.

I don't know....I like it loud. I just got Pacesetter LTs put on, with SLP loudmouth. Below 3 grand it's not all that loud. Of course above 3g and you'd think you're in a Cup car......which is exactly what I like. Of course it's not a daily driver, so maybe that makes a little differance.

Mine's not a daily driver and I don't mind the loud at all around town but on the highway in 6th gear that deep tone starts to ring in your head on a long ride and I can hardly hear my stereo.

Are all cutouts custom or is there someone who makes on that fit's in place of my resonator? What does a cutout setup cost?

I'm planning to go with either a Magnaflow or Borla.
