which makes the rating scale totally useless...

come on yall if these LS1's are built tough as they say they are, then conventional oil should do fine for 200,000 miles...who needs SYNTHETIC?

Ya b/c oil tends to do that, I was referring to GC myself b/c after all the countless reviews I've heard about it why not. I've heard some poeple have great results with Mobil One and others don't. My engine seems to eat it more than I'd like and from what I've read that has gone away with the switch to different oil. GC is about the only one I'd consider changing to myslef. Does that sound like a good enough reason to you

I stay away from Pennzoil, Quaker State and other "paraffinic"
oils because I found a thick layer of waxy stuff in one of my
motors on teardown, when I was much younger. I used to use
Pennzoil exclusively up to that point.

I use the "German Castrol" now, mainly liking the full synthetic
in case I forget to change it for a bit. The price (on sale) was
near regular oils.

Stay with the 10w-30. 5W-30 is to light at warmer temps. IMO If anything I would try to go with heaver oil like 15w-40. Again just my opinion~~

Everyone has their own opinions about oil. I've owned 6 Z28's, all used Mobil 1 and the internals looked amazing after 90k miles.

Let's address the clueless comment tho just for the hell of it. Show me proof that Amsoil, RP, and Redline are better.

PS: I think that desert heat might be getting to you

Default 5w 30

5w 30 is the preferred oil the moter turns over easier compared to the 10w30
because the first # is liter. reguardless of outside temps.

look at the oils that porshe, viper, vette come with moblie 1.

I have tryed the castrol syn. (only because moblie one was sold out) I noticed an obvious smelly smell I did'nt like.

main thing is change it (whatever oil) before it turns funky

Damn I didn't know I was clueless all these years either!!!! Been using M1 for years in all of my vehicles and not ever a problem. All this "M1 is junk" stuff is bull. It is still the factory fill in more high performance cars than any other, and you can find it easily. I'm sure the GC is a fine oil, but I'm not changing to it. In reference to your question, I use the 10W30 in my southern climate.

ok heres a question for all the GC 0w-30 users. what is your oil pressure at 60 mph in OD gear? im at around 45-50 psi at 2000 RPM(stock 3.23's). i use 10-40 Mobil 1 synthetic high mileage. i need some evidence of something better than a review if im gonna change to German Castrol sorry!!!
