Default Front bumper push pin removal

I can't get these things off to save my life, and I want to re-use them.

What's the best way to get them off while still being able to re-use them, without the specific tool for it?

try using a small flathead screwdriver. that is what i have always done and it works ok. they are just a pain in the ***.

I usually do it with two flat heads, one on each side, once you can get the pin out enough, use a pair of needle nose

i just use one flat head. Just remember you have to pop the center of it up before the whole thing will pull out.

Yeah, I used a very narrow flathead, and needle nose. Finally got the bumper off, stock grille out, and bumper back on.

For future reference, use a pair of sidecutters. Obviously dont squeeze all the way or you will cut the head off...but the edges of the pliers fit great underneath the head of the push pin. Just pry and it pops right out. Done this many times when I dont have my retainer tool.

What does the actual retainer tool look like?

hi a package @ auto zone is like 3-4.00 and you get 10 i just bought some when i painted that gray piece of plastic on the front under the hood

I have the Mac plier kind that has 2 slotted flat blades that come in on each side of the head. These below also work well:
