I have checked every singl thing I could under the car, it is 100% stock A4(for now)with 123000 miles on it. I checked LCA's, PHR, front and rear sway bars, shocks and springs, trans mounts, and slip of drive shaft etc....nothing was appearant at all, yet on a 1-2 shift something thumps pretty bad, especially under hard acceleration. Someone told me it could be something to do with the torque converter somehow, but I don't really know. Anyone want to chime in on this?

Any codes? I had a similar problem with a hard 1-2 shift in my V6 Camaro, it threw a code and was a problem with the tranny overheating. Does it happen all the time or only on long/hot drives?

what in the rear end would be doing that exactly?
and to "question", it does it more when its still cold, after it heats up it's only appearant under heavy load and hard acceleration.

have you ever replaced the trans mount? i bet its broken. its hard to see just looking at it sometimes. check your shocks maybe? keep your hand on the shifter though when you are hard accelerating or better yet get cruising then mash it so you have a real hard downshift. you will definitely feel it in the shifter and know right away if it is or isn't the trans mount.

I would say its the transmission mount letting the bellhousing roll over and smack the tunnel at low speed shifts...Cost you about $25 buck and 30 minutes of your time to remedy..Best of luck

You said in your first post that the tranny mount was good.....
Did you actually take it off the car to check it?
Reason for asking, you won't be able to see the tear in it with it still on the car.
Click on the link in my sig to pics of what it looks like off the car (56k, die).

I bought mine last year and had the same problem. I put it on a lift, and there was nothing visibly wrong. Thought, what the hell, it's only $10 and replaced the trans mount. Problem solved. It's also the cheapest thing to check as well.

I think it was actually the exhaust banging the crossmember,I had an exhaust cutout put on and noticed the pipe laying there on a crossmember, I don't know how missed it before. But anyways now it doesn't do that. I'm in prossess of putting some Strano Bilstein HD's on right now, and I just got a MTI carbon Fiber look lid. My first three mods...lol. Thanks for your help though guys.

As I was reading through this I kept thinking exhaust becasue I just became the new owner of a 98 and mine does the same thing because of a poor attemt at a ORY made by the previous owner. So I am going to fix it with some long tubes and a ORX pipe and bullets
and then I am going to do a drive by on the Previous owners house and throw the Y-pipe in his front yard......lol
