Default Just CAN'T WIN... Bottle Heater not getting hot enough?

This weekend going to finally spray and flip the switch and the bottle heater doesn't work? Pressure is at 650. Worked when we dynoed a few weeks back so I knwo it did work. Go back this morning and found the issue. The ground connection was bad, re grounded and PUT IN A NEW RELAY and it worked.... GREAT!

Now off to spray finally on way home.....Turn the bottle on, and the heater. Bottle was at 650 BEFORE the HEATER was on. It climbs almost to 800, not quite and never gets any hotter. I feel; the bottle and the heater and it feels Hot. I had it on for at least 30 minutes.

OK the bottle was freshly filled before we sprayed 4 weeks ago (Maybe I got a BAD Fill?). Dynoed 2 times on the spray 2 weeks ago and purged a few times. Had a few issues so said to try on street and see fi it did the same thing. Seems like it should have some N20 Left....

OK so WHY would the Bottle Pressure NOT go above 800? Also STRANGE (maybe not but asking) on my NX 3 button Switch Panel. One the 1st buttom (which is a dual switch) "ARM" is activated when flipped UP and when flipped down "BOTTLE HEATER ON".

Strange, the actual NX Switch on the 3 switch Panel, switch #1 far rigt that controls the HEATER felt really HOT to the touch when the heater was on and the button was switched DOWN? is this normal????? It was ON for 30-40 minutes while I weas trying to get the bottle pressure to go Higher than 800

I called the shop and they mentioned if the bottle is low it is hard to get the pressure up when the bottle heater is on, or it can take a LONG TIME. Also said a lot of bottles slowly leak N2O out over time.

Any Ideas WHY my Bottle Heater only allowed my Bottle Pressure to get to barely 800 PSI???? I also checked the gauge on the actual bottle and it matched the same reading. Also after I turned off the heater and purged the Bottle it dropped to around 600 PSI just so you know what it was at

Do I need to refill my bottle? Is this strange???? HELP Please.........................

Do you think I have a leak? How do you test? Stick in a bathtub?

OK. I guess I had a leak, or a loose fitting, emptied bottle and there was about 2 lbs left?? Found the culprit! Will refill and check it again. That hot switch is probably from being on for 45 minutes straight.

O2 Trans Am. Man I honestly don't know. I didn't put it in and the guy that fixed the heater went in and soldered something and reground the heater. Not sutre where he powered fro?

The HEAT Issue might be because the heater was ON for 45 minutes trying to heat the empty bottle. It was on so long in made my switch HOT.

I assume that is why you were asking about the Power?

Should that button be HOT at all????????????????????????????????????

I asked where you were getting power from because it sounds like you aren't getting enough electrical charge since the heater still works but not efficiently. I'm thinking maybe the person who installed it didn't think it needed alot of power so he tapped into a hot source inside the interior. The heater is supposed to receive power straight from the positive terminal of the car's battery. Hook up a 30 Amp fuse inline with that power cord as well. Also, maybe the guy who installed it put in too thin of a wire to carry the load. I believe the Harris Speed Works bottle heater I purchased came with a 10 gauge wire. Check out those two so you can cross that off your check list if you still have problems.

Thanks so much. I WILL, but it seems the reason it wasn't getting pasy 800 and it was working overtime (had it heating for 40 minutes) is because the bottle was EMPTY, or close to it.

you have a corvette and its about to be summer. I doubt youll even need a heater. When i Didnt have a nano, before we would street race I would soak my bottle in hot water in the bathtub. The psi would get to 1100-1200psi. Ide take it out, purge, and the pressure was always around 1000-900 on the first 2-3 nitrous runs (1-2 gears on the hwy).

Get a nano and you wont have to worry about a heater.

Technically, the heater switch should not get hot....even if it is on for 45 minutes.
The fact that it gets hot when used for a long period indicates that the current(amperage) rating is borderline small.
If the switch can be replaced with a larger capacity switch....you will increase the power
available to the heater.

The only thing in the system that should get hot, is the heater....if anything else is
heating up.....look for a problem.

I had the same problem before. My relay was getting a weak power source and totally took forever to heat up. Once I figured out my problem and rewired properly, I was up to operating temp super fast. Also, what kind of of heater do you have? Didn't read the whole thing, but if you have one pressure based, make sure it is setup properly, it might be shutting off early if it is not turned to shut off at a higher pressure.

Problem figured out
My bottle was empty, or close to it. Got that figured out, BUT when they fixed the heater it is getting HOt so that is the next issue.

I posted a post about that specifically.

Isnt the NX switch panel lighted with a decent size light? If its putting out light for 45 minutes id imagine its gonna warm up.

You heater should get it's power directly from the battery via a relay that is turned on buy the switch on your panel. If you run the current required to operate the heater through your low current switch on your panel it will heat up. The current used to turn on a relay is low therefore switch stays cool.
