Default Power loss N/A from colder plugs

Is there much loss using a TR6 or BR7 N/A when you dont want to run the nitrous? Just trying to get a idea if i would expect to see less at the track on motor, if i should run a TR5/6 in the 5.3, then swap to a BR7 when the gas is on or just buy a BR7 and call it good?

You're going to lose a little bit running a colder plug. If you don't mind swapping plugs then run a hotter plug and just switch when you're going to spray. I hit my power goal n/a for now with the br7ef's so I just run them all the time.

Well, i guess i will test them in my 6.0, see if it helps or hurts, i installed a super victor and i was hoping to knock off a tenth to get a 7.0 all motor, would suck if a set of plugs held me back by leaving me at 7.1s.

TR6 to BR7 wont cost you any power.

This isnt 1980 .... The LS1 chambers are very efficent, what do you think a little colder tip plug will cause the thing to not fire off or something?

^^^Agreed. I tested this on my car. I made two back to back n/a runs, the first with TR6 plugs and the second with ngk -8's and the runs were within .05 ET and .2 mph of each other.

That was a track comparison which is good for the OP to see and I have a dyno comparison in that i ran the tr6 on the dyno and then put in the br7ef's and only lost 4hp on the dyno but that 4hp could be anything.

bingo.

the power lose could have been simply from motor temp, outside temps etc.

FWIW my best motor passes ever was on a day I was running nitrous and some guys wanted to know what my car ran on motor so I made a few passes. I was running br8efs gapped at .33 So I would have to agree that the colder plug will not hurt and if you really want my honest opinion I think tr55s are too hot for a bolt-on car and #7s are probably the best plug to drive around on for a DD plug setup.

You don't constantly foul plugs when DD'ing the BR7EF's? I'm considering running them 24/7 since I'm about to start spraying.

If they don't constantly foul during city driving, that would be a much more convenient alternative than running the TR55's for daily use, then needing to swap to BR7EF's if I planned on spraying that night.

I DD my car on the br7ef's and I have never fouled them. I change them about twice a year.

If you were tuned on 55s then switch to 7s you might see an overly rich condition. Your tuner should be able to clean it up fairly easy.

Ive been running colder plugs since my install on the LT's which has been a few months and i would seriously doubt you would lose any power at all. Just run the colder plugs if your using nitrous and leave them in.

FYI. on the colder plugs you will more than likely get a little more timming in it. We have found little to o loss in colder pluss. the thing that scares people is if you idle tune is mediocre to start the cold plug on start up will make it worse. if your fix your **** tune it will idle and run good and run about the same.
