Default How could this be done?

I want to bypass my NOS bottle heater thermostat (doesn't work anyways) and just be able to turn on the heater when I flip the switch to engage it.

Thanks
Mike

Sure can! I never liked my thermostat. I just ran the switch and relay...just keep an eye on the pressure.

Since the switch that heats the rear hatch glass is designed to only stay on for only so many mintues, depending on outside temperature, I wonder if it would work out running contecting the manual switch for the bottle heater to the rear defrost switch? This way to heat your bottle and keep the rear hatch defrosted, just hit the defrost button. It should then switch off before the bottle and rear glass is overheated. Then in cold weather, you could get in, start the car, then hit the defrost, warming both. Like a 2 for 1 deal.

I am not saying this is a perfect idea. Just wondering.

Andy...When I first got my kit thats how I had it hooked up. But I had to disconnect the rear defroster element and run the bottle heater only. If I tried both it would trip the breaker. Other than that it works great.

383LQ4SS,
Thanks, I never thought about the breaker. Of course I just thought of this, never tried it.
If you say it worked well, I wonder if anything could be done to keep it from triping the break with out any adverse effects?

Andy...short of rewiring the defroster circuit theres not much you can do...in addition to trippig the breaker..the wires at the defroster got so hot that it started to melt the surrounding plastic of the hatch. You could wire in a switch up front to switch between defroster and bottle heater so there will only be one being powered at a time.

I've actually run two car's bottle warmers with the defogger switch but in both cases I tapped into the defogger line in the hatch light area and only used it to provide signal to the relay for the warmer. In both cars, no problem has arisen. I can imagine that if you tried to pass all the too high a current through the switch that some "melting" would occur but otherwise I can't see 1.5a 12v load causing a problem.

actually its very easy, you can unplug the thermostat, and the 2 wires going to the thermostat should plug together if memory serves me right on the connections, that will bypass it.

I got the bottle to heat now for as long as I want. Works great! thanks everyone! Nother question... how long do I need to let it heat for? I let it heat for a while and was keeping a close eye on the pressure and I waited and waited and the bottle pressure did not seem to rise very quickly at all. It rose a little and bottle was pretty hot to the touch, to the point you would not want to touch it for a long time. I was worried and shut it off but my pressure hardly did anything but raise just a few pounds. Do I just need to suck it up and let it keep heating? I have gotten my bottle filled before and picked it up without cooling (so the pressure would be high) and the temp of the bottle did not seem really hot and I had pressure like 920 or so. So I figure it takes longer to heat the bottle from the outside in vs having it heated from within to out. Should I just leave the heater running even though the bottle gets really hot until it reaches the desired pressure?

Bottle pressure rise time is directly proportionate to the amount if N2O left in the bottle...the lower the n2o the slower pressure will rise.

A full bottle with a "new style" NOS bottle warmer and good power source will heat a full 10-15 lbs bottle from 900 psi - 1100 psi in about 3-5 mins. A near empty bottle 2-3 lbs left may take 10-15 mins to reach 1100 psi. If your bottle is full of co2 you are never gonna compress the air to reach 1000 psi. Just keep an eye out so you don't melt something down.

Thanks for the heads up. That helps me a lot. I would think the bottle is getting rather low in juice left so im sure thats the problem. I just bought the NOS bottle warmer off Jegs just bout 2months ago to should be the "new style" i guess...

Also what do you guys usually pay for NOS refills? I have been paying 3 bucks a pound. Is this too high?

Nitro Daves sells the pressure transducer for the NX warmer by itself for $114 if you're concerned about the pressure.
