Default Head Choice for Spraying Bigger Hits

We all know that a nitrous friendly cam for spraying bigger hits is benificial. Split cams can in fact help out the exhaust side of things. A little more duration and lift can do wonders making the big hits more volutmetrically efficiant. Why, well we really aren't adding any more volume on the intake side, but once the nitrous and extra fuel combust we have a larger amount of exhaust gases to get rid of compared to running n/a. So, the entire exhaust tract needs attenion, including the cam, the head flow (intake vs exhaust) and of course large headers (1 7/8 min) 3inch exhaust, cat delete. Ok, well the question(s) are/is: Is my thinking on cue? Does the AFR 225 heads seem to be the correct choice over the unported L92s in the comparison below.

L92 head
74.2/57 cfm @ .100 lift
154.1/113.9 @ .200
208.2/150.7 @ .300
244.4/171.5 @ .400
270.7/185.9 @ .500
287.9/191.5 @ .600

AFR 225 head
68/59.1 cfm @ .100 lift
146.5/116.4 @ .200
210.2/168.6 @ .300
254.4/202.6 @ .400
283.8/216.6 @ .500
265.8/223.4 @ .600

I've heard the L92's decks aren't as think as something like the afr....And could become a problem with the BIG shots. But that may just be someone exaggerating.

I would go with the AFRs. But I de believe either will get the job done with just a 300 shot or so.

I think I would go with the AFR's because of the outstanding exhaust flow.

you know what heads i would not use. lol

if i was getting a set of heads for a standerd ls block, i would go etp or edlbrock. i have used a few sets of the edlbrocks and they seem to be working very well and are a real nice piece.

The AFR are the right choice. There number will be very close to advertised as alot of other heads will be inflated. I have confirmd this on our local bench many times! THe AFR will Kill the 92!

What heads are on your car now?

Your car seemed to run pretty good with the AFR's

I'm gonna run a ET on my 445 lsx block setup. The decks on these things are monsters, and I feel confident it can handle a two staged 400 kick.

One of the top site engine builders did a cross cut sectional of the l92, and it has the same deck thickness. he went on to state they are not sure yet why they lift?

It is now going to be a total of 350rwhp with the addition of the 3rd dry stage.

I have been looking at these heads with what ever limited info I can find. Good for the big bores? I would also get a very good deal, as I was the senior mechanic on his last mega yacht build .

I sure wouldn't be running a big monster like most of you guys run. Mine is staying truly street/strip, so not sure how big yet, but currently have a mild 228/232 578/587 112. The l92 at this time (FAST to the rescue next year) only has the l76, and if going AFRs or the like then the 90/90 Fast would be my choice. I do like the idea of building a head for my needs.

Anser to question 1, No heads. see they are off the car. lol

anser to question 2, the car did go very well this year, just imagine what she will do next year with a set of heads that flow near double my afr's, a bigger cam, higher revs, and a converter set up right. hehe

So Brad, what do think really caused this? What was the shot size that did the damage the first time? and compression?

**** size was 100 shot and compression was 14-1

not 100% sure what caused it. not to worried about it tho. i'll have new heads next season, and i know it wasnt my motor that caused it.
