pacesetter long tubes 3" ORY and 2 12" dynomax bullets

Bad news: piston rings are bad in a couple cyl...started smoking blue today and pulled plugs to find oil residue all over, not to mention leaking between the header and block

looks like im ordering new rings in a couple days and putting them in this weekend or early next week.

yay...****

Bummer man. Sorry to hear that. If the rings didn't seat and it glazed the cyl walls you'll need to re-hone the block before installing the new rings.

Were the originals a file-fit type ring? What was your end gap?

well....no cyl wall damage, still has the hone marks in it, i set the ring gap at factory since they didnt have a spec listed with them. ill double check before the new ones go in. in any case, looks like no harm no foul, just gonna re ring it and put it back together

so much oil blow by that it was putting #3 out. still ran hard on 7 cyl though lol

i believe it should be easier to tune when all cylinders are working correctly. new rings and head gaskets are on the way

Are you sure that cyl was firing at all? I'd look deeper into why it wasn't sparking. I doubt enough oil could get by to prevent any spark. If it wasn't getting spark because of a bad wire, bad coil, bad plug etc.., it could explain why those rings didn't seat in that cylinder and why it started smoking. The rings need the added compression from the flame front in order to seat correctly.

well upon further inspection, i noticed that the 2nd ring was upside down....it didnt have a mark for which way was up and in addition to that, the top two gaps were almost inline with each other.

new rings will be in tomorrow along with a badass compressor, i tried using some **** wrinkle one and it was a bitch to install. i shelled out the $30 for the tapered aluminum one so maybe this time i can manage to get things right.
