Hi
I purchased a low mileage black 1996 Z28 SS this spring and was told recently
by someone that all Camaro's have flat black headlight buckets. Mine match the exterior gloss paint. Doe's any one know if this is true.

not sure about black, but i'm pretty sure that all of the 93-97's did have the black painted headlight surroundings. it seems like even the black cars had it though
the paint on your car, its not stock, am i right? looks really good, almost too good for stock
when a lot of people repaint their cars they paint that area the color of the rest of the car, it gives it a cleaner look, atleast to me it does. i know thats what my brother did, and lots of othes i know of,maybe thats what the original owner did. and all sellers dont always tell you that the car has been painted, or had any problems.

Thanks KLaBZ28
Hi crimson_bird
The car is all original with just over 17k on it. The guy I bought from really took good care of it. I don't think the front was repainted but it would be interesting to know that is a for sure thing.
Maybe someone will be able to tell me.
Thanks
Brad

That is how the black cars looked, they just painted the whole front black. Almost all the other colors though came with flat black buckets/grille, my p5 silver z originaly had flat black buckets and grille but I had them painted gloss and whole bumper cleared when I repainted the car earlier this year.

All the early LT1 cars were suppose to have flat black except the black cars. GM saved money by just painting the black front bumpers black across. However, some bumpers that were tossed around in production got the flat black and later years did because of the main reason why the other colors came with flat black. It had to do with the way the headlights reflected off the bumper. Flat colors dont bounce light the way gloss does. But your car is a 96 so it should have gotten a new flat black bumper. You probably got a old bumper left over from the previos year. Hope this helps.

The guy I bought this from also had an 01 Vette with 8k on it, just as mint.
He was waiting for his 2010 Camaro to get to the dealer. (super nice guy)
That makes alot of sense ssfast99, thought he could have done it because it looks kind of nice with the gloss vs flat paint.
Now I just have to decide whether I am going to put my new motor in this car or find a doner, having a hard time with tearing this one apart.
Thanks everyone
