yeah, i'm bored so i decided to google it after posting that. saw that thread, and saw that it was 20+ pages so i didnt bother looking through it.

heres a couple more things you can check out. even though probably already seen them: http://www.turbododge.com/forums/f8/...rustolium.html and http://www.search-autoparts.com/sear...e/detail/61860

even for only $75, i'd proabaly only do it on a roller/project car as a temporary till i could do a real paint job

I painted my El Camino (RIP) with Rustoleum and a
brush. But I don't think it was the look you're going
for.

I think they had it in a past GMHT. They did the entire car though. I think the article was call "the 98 dollar paint job"

did this on my old 69 camaro that way.

Not sure if you can tell, but the front header panel was completely finished so you can see the reflection off it. Never finished the car when I took this picture.

May work well on solid colors but don't think metallic would work very well

yeah i know it will never match factory paint. i was talking about getting the whites fairly close. and how much of a difference it would have with factory paint, if its even worth my time for a temporary fix. to me anything is better than the large pieces of paint chipping off my bumper i have now.

This is a TERRIBLE IDEA you might as well leave the car primered instead of rolling the paint on. not trying to make you feel bad man but DONT DO IT!!!1

i read the original post, all 20 pages and then some. This does appear to work. Also, there was either a car craft article on this and how they did it. This will not get you professional results, but there are a lot of arguments on those pages.

The pros I see:

- cheap
- take your time so no need to rush, can work one panel at a time
- no need for same level of ventilation (i.e. spray booth vs just ventilation)
- no overspray
- can look reasonable, i've seen a few

Cons:
- prep = prep, (need same level of prep as a regular paint job) for good results
- so all you save is someone painting it and automotive paint material
- it's acrylic enamel finish, won't shine as well as BC/CC finish
- I can't figure out how the hell do you roll the jambs and not get any runs? (they recommend spray paint can of same color)
- what about edges and how to get them well covered in enough material

All in all it's interesting, and can work, results are up to the level of effort you put into it.
some guys have used the urethane paint made for boats.

it is interesting and no worries in the parking lot if someone dings your 5k paint job, since yours was only about $100

this procedure is good for late model cars, like your novas or darts, something you want to look decent and have to time to do..it can look really good for those type cars, but like most have said not for the newer generation cars

your not going to match a metallic color with roll on paint and it would be hard to match the shine and texture also

It's a camaro not a corvette or something geeze

I've seen it done on the net, and looks awesome, but it take ALOT of work to get it to shine like auto paint. White is about the only color i can see you matching decently. I say go for it. What do you have to lose but your time?

Depend on what its worth to the OP, at the end of the day its still just an eight year old camaro with a $100 paint job or a $5000 paint job. That being said I have seen some decent roll on paint jobs (from the thread mentioned above) but I think you would be much better off just spraying it yourself or having an above mentoined out of work painter do it.
