Anyone know if this will cover a paint bubble under the hood? I got nice 6 inch bubble chiling out by the back. I talked to GM and they said there is no paint recall issue on 02's

No, this is only an issue with GM using a glue used to attach the roof panels which outgasses over time and creates small bubbles in the paint.

I've had bubbles in the roof stripes of my 30th TA for a couple of years, replaced the stripes in Jan. and a week later new bubbles,in the new stripes,in exactly the same spots. Wish I'd seen this thread a couple of years ago!!

Any word on a class action suit?

I bought my car with 92k on it, and it has bubbles on the roof. It now has 103k It's a 2000 model. I tried selling it, and the guy said that it was eating through the plastic on the car and that's why it bubbles, which seems odd. It sucks, because I lost a sale because of this.. and I'd really like to get in on this lawsuit.

Peace,
Josh

I have the exact same problem with my 2001 Z28. I thought it was from acid rain and I was screwed. I wrecked the car back in December and the body shop resprayed it for me. Looks ok now, but you can see the underlying problem and it will return. I am moving in two weeks and will address the issue with GM after I move. Thanks for all the post and the bulletin. Looks very helpful.

I can understand some of the low millage cars but a 2000 with 100K?

You have no grounds for any legal action.

Jeremiah, the bubbles have been there a LONG time, and I didn't realize it was a hardtop issue. It's pretty clear that milage has nothing to do with paint.. I can drive a car 200 million miles and if it sits out in a parking spot in the sun, it's still in the sun the same amount. How do I NOT have grounds for a law suit. The problem is the defective paint and years, not miles.. this isn't an engine.

BTW: Obviously I'm on a friends account at his house.

Thanks,
Josh

I think Jeremiah's point is that most cars with 0-100K miles can squeek by and receive coverage under some sort of warranty or policy. With over 100K, its a bit of a stretch. You can still try for a manufacturers defect, its just harder to fight with the odo rolled back that far.

I have the exact same problem on my 99 with 89k miles. Has anyone delt with any dealers around Memphis, TN? Think it is worth trying to talk to dealers or would that be waisting my time?

Well i called GM customer service . The rep informed me that they no knowledge of this issue and that I would need to take it to my local dealership to have them check it for me and see if the dealership determines the roof/ paint was defective. The rep told me that because I never documented with the dealership about the problem during the warranty period they would view this as neglect and nothing would be available to me.

I know my dealership is a buch of ******** and will basically say im **** out of luck.

Did they just offer to fix it for you or what? They just told me to go to the dealership and get it looked at and if dealer says it is a defect, than to call back and we would talk about replacement

I meant going to the dealership 1st was useless. They wont want to help you. Woman at the 800# told me next to go to a dealership to verify this is what was happening, pretty much like your situation so maybe there's hope for you.

Went to the dealership today and had the service writers look at it as well as the body shop manager. They determined it was defective. They were knowledgeable about the problem and said its only going to get worse. They advised to me to call GM and get the ball rolling. Chevrolet rep called the body shop while I was on hold to talk to the guy i spoke with but he was unavailable. They should be contacting me about this when the body shop contacts the customer service rep.
