I wonder if its even worth it. However I thought it was law that when something was recalled it HAD to be fixed regaurdless of when and how many times until it was right...or is that just for safety items?

Should they? Yes...it is a latent defect. Will they? Probably not...it isn't a recall, so they'll try to deny your claim any way they can. I'm gonna try another dealership this morning.

There has never been a recall on this issue..just a service bulletin ... if anyone gets this repair done at this time for free it will be a big surprise.

So pretty much they are just going to tell me the car is out of warranty and there is nothing they can do? Is there anything in specific I should say?

Depends...I went to the local dealership where I live (Dayton, OH) today. I'd never dealt with them for service since I'm in the military (I moved here not long ago), and I don't trust dealerships to work on my **** anyways. I tried going through a service manager at first, and they sent me straight to their body shop (since they had one). I talked to the guy in the body shop (I came with service bulletin in hand), and when I told him what was going on, he looked at me like I had 3 eyes. I showed him the document, and he was still perplexed...then I took him out and showed him my car.

He started looking at it, and gave me this look --> He took some pictures, and went in and grabbed the body shop manager. They both started looking it over, and I showed him how the paint is essentially wrinkling all along the line where the glue is. He knew immediately that that was the problem, and asked the manager if it was something they could just sand and paint over. The manager told him that it was obviously the glue, and painting over it would not be the permanent solution that they could guarantee. He told the guy to write the estimate to state that the entire panel would need replaced, but here's the catch: he'd have to get it approved at the next level up.

I have a feeling that's where this will stop...if I can't get GM to cover it, my next call will be to my insurance to see if they'll cover it under my comprehensive coverage since it is so retardedly expensive to fix. If not that, then I'll be going to the BBB. After that, I'll pay out of pocket. It needs to be fixed, but I'm hoping not on my dime. It looks ******* hideous

The dude doing up the estimate was quoting a price that was pretty high...it was at least $300 over what GM parts direct shows for the part (minus shipping of course).

i tried that and no go.
i am going to write the BBB a formal letter this weekend.

how many of you would be willing to retain an attorney, if we can contribute, let's say 30 bux each and get enough to reach 4k to 6k, we can get an attorney to file a class action suit against GM and we have plenty of support from guys here who have gotten their done under and out of warranty. should be the same across the board. i

As expected, my claim was rejected by GM.

As for a class action lawsuit, I'd love to, but that would be pretty hard to organize over the internet. I'm gonna see what my insurance will do.

And as expected my claim was denied by GM. It took them 3 days to simply say "No".

I suppose the next step for me is to write the BBB.

Don't forget to write to Santa Claus, the tooth fairy, the Easter Bunny, and the wicked witch of the south too....you will get just as much help from them as you will from the phuchin BB ...
