Default Precautions to picking up newly painted car?

I've had my car at a very reputable paint and body shop for the past 2 weeks getting some panels freshly painted and have been worried the whole time it's over there. I was thinking of bringing a scanner to check the car for codes when I pick it up. I've just been real paranoid about my car lately, especially since it's at a shop, very loud, and everyone can see what's in it.

What has anyone here done to really be sure their car was in the same shape they dropped it off in when they pick it up?

If you are that paranoid then that may have not been a good shop to take your car to begin with. Did you notate the mileage before you dropped it off?

you could get some tuning software & limit the car to a certain max MPH & max RPMs, say like 25mph & 2000rpms

oh wow. didn't know you could limit stuff like that. sounds like a good idea to do.

nah, i'm just being overly paranoid. i just don't like the fact that my car is in other people's hands. how can i know if something was changed when i get it back? isn't there some type of scanner that can tell you the past activity of the car for a certain amount of time? like, the car was revved at this rpm at this time and so forth?

and yeah i definately noted the miles. if it's increased more than a mile then boy howdy!

I just note the miles or do it myself. The last time I dropped my car off at a shop I saw some teenager driving it down the road about 20 miles away from the shop when all I wanted done was my exhaust tips aligned.

That was over 8 months ago and ever since then I've been doing all of my work.

Yeah I followed a buddy of mine down to get a good detail. We were cruisin the mall and all that. Jumped back on the on ramp and was passed by his car doing about 100-105 ish. Ever since then, and this may sound corny, but I draft up my own contract stating the miles, condition and several other factors. I take a witness and most places really dont mind. If they have nothing to worry about, they will sign it all day long. If they have something to hide then they are hesitant. But I really do all my own work so that is in RARE cases that I have to drop it off.

No reason for body shop to be driving your vehicle unless they have to get something like an alignment done. As mentioned before, a good shop wouldn't be driving it anyways. They don't want to risk anything happening to it.
I'm sure your car is fine.

Jesus I would have smoke coming from my ears. I'd be so pissed. May I ask what were some of your few choice words?

I get paranoid too, theres not much I cant do myself, one thing where they usually do drive the car is allignments. I always wait to make sure they arent out driving all around. I worked in shops before, most cases you have nothing to worry about, MOST!

Im really paranoid about mine too. I hate leaving my car somewhere and having other people getting their hands on it.

I had to leave mine at the shop yesterday for a window motor replacement. I was at work so I couldnt even drive by and check on it. Whats even worse is that I didnt choose the shop, it was the lot that I bought the car from paying for the repair so they chose the shop.

I noted the mileage when i dropped it off, and specifically told them that it was not to be driven at all. One little smartass looking kid seemed a bit dissapointed, like he was hoping for a joy ride. If there would have been more than .1 mile put on the car then all hell would have been unleashed on someones *** But I think the threat of serious disfigurement or killings got the point across

I understand that you are worried about your car, but there isnt anything to worry about in 99.99% of shops.
