Default mom washed my car with degreaser

my mom borrowed my car the other day, and so in return she thought it would be nice to wash it after she was done with it, but she couldn't find the car soap apparently and decided to wash it with diluted all purpose degreaser (I don't know what would provoke a person to do that....). it sorta left streaks and what not on the back half of my car... what can I do to get them out? I tried washing it last night with good soap and then claying it, but the claybar didn't work. I could feel it catching on stuff, but when I went to wipe off after I had tested the clay on the spoiler, it had just left a bunch of smudge marks Not sure why it did that... just looks like a bunch of scratches, which is awesome. It was done inside my garage as well, so it's not like I did anything wrong.

Would washing it with Dawn to take off the rest of the wax maybe prevent that from happening with the clay?

that's not so bad, i had a girl call me once to see if i couldn't fix her car after she washed it with a scotchbrite pad...no ****. anyway, try buffing it, we used to use degreaser on cars all the time, especially on bug splatter, we just had to make sure we didn't leave it on too long. i think i know more or less what you are referring to, and it should buff out.

I just washed it with Dawn. I have a Claymagic bar and clay lube... and as far as cleaner wax, i think I have meguiars cleaner wax, i have some scratch x, maybe something else, and for waxes I have meguiars nxt... SHOULD I BOTHER WITH THE CLAYBAR? When I tried last night, it just left smudgy scratches, not sure why (i know what i'm doing...).. so I don't want to go and **** it up more if it's not going to help.

yea, the only thing that i would feel confident about using would be an orbital buffer with a good compound.

Sounds like you have an old claybar or aren't using enough lubricant when using it. If it is still catching on the paint the bar isn't pulling it out of the paint.

Try the porter but do a small section. If it won't cut out then you need to go back to step one, strip detergent wash, clay bar, possible cutter to remove swirl marks then polish.

At least your Mom tried to do something nice for you, respect her for that.

Use the porter cable on about 4 and use the scratch x for compound as its not too abrasive .
