I had mine dyno tuned at Dave's. Great service, they went the extra Mile to get my car ready on time and do top notch service, my mods are in my sig and so are my numbers(thought they would have been higher but thats what my car did:{) I'd recommend them.

I witnessed 2 dyno tunes in the past 2 days here at Nitro Dave's. Incredible service! One car was a 6.0L block with a 175 shot that put down 640 rwhp and on motor it put down 421 rwhp. The other car was a LT1 car that started out at 315 rwhp and left with 337 rwhp. Dave's tuner has a great track record for tuning. Give Dave a call and he will fill you in. www.nitrodaves.com

Good Luck,
Sean

i drove all the way frmo san antonio to waco and I gotta say it was worth the drive. Nitro Dave has AWESOME customer service even when you could tell he looks extremely busy.

I believe "moehorsepower" on this board is going to tune the car for you. I went with the TR224 114 cam. At the time I did not have headers on there. After the 1st tune car put down 350rwhp. After at least 7 times of retuning the car put down 360rwhp. I would highly recommend moe for the tuning. He did an awesome job for me.

hey "abate1224" you almost have the exact same setup im going for. I have the 224/224 114 cam and im going for the NX 100 wet kit as well. What did you dyno with and without the 100 shot? Any 1/4 mile results?

Would you be able to PM me and speak a little about your setup? Im a little worried about the traction conditions in 2nd gear roll.

i would highly recommend anybody go to Nitro Dave's.
i drove all the way from Oklahoma (4 hours) to get my cam installed, and it was worth it that i drove there again to get more stuff installed( heads, headers, tunning)
Dave is a great guy to deal with and the customer service is the best,

I know I'm going against the grain here but I had my blown heads/cam LS1 tuned there. Dave's service was excellent, however the tuning left a lot to be desired. The WOT numbers were top notch, however partial throttle driving was so bad I was afraid to drive it. It would barely idle, surge, and lurch forward 5-10 feet when starting. It also came back to me with the LTrims pegged to 25. It was throwing a code for that, but Moe(the tuner) simply deleted the code instead of correcting the situation.

Since he does WOT tuning on the dyno, and then partial throttle tuning (backwards IMHO), although the fueling was perfect on the dyno, after doing some crusing with the LTrims pegged to 25. When I would go WOT, instead of locking at zero they would lock at 25! This caused the WOT fueling to go down a full point (i.e. to 10.5:1).

I told Dave about the problems and he wanted me to come back up there (another testiment to his good service). So I did. However when we put it on the dyno and saw the 10.5:1 A/F ratio Moe was perplexed as to why it was so rich, and immediately blamed me for messing it up! He also claimed the reason the car surged was because I "put it in 4th gear at low speeds." So basically, as far as he is concerned, "the customer is always the cause of any problems encountered."

I left the 2nd time with the car in the same shape as before. LTrims pegged to 25 each, about 3* of KR at WOT, etc. I ended up spending a few hours tuning it myself. Now it drives like stock, idles perfectly right off the bat without throttle (even on cold mornings). And guess what? I can even put it in 4th gear at low speeds without it bucking and surging!

Turns out mostly the cause of the problem was from Moe apparently forgetting to change several important tables, for example Injector Offset (I have SVO 42lb injectors). I also noticed the MAF scaling was not smooth and had some strange spikes in it. There were also some less severe problems like neglecting to disable some codes related to AIR, etc.

For someone who didn't have their own copy of LS1 Edit, this would have been a nightmare and most likely I would still have the bucking/surging problems!

When it all comes down to it, the service there from Dave was excellent, top notch. I would probably still buy parts from him. However, Moe's tuning (on LS1s at least) was poor IMO. I would not take my car there again for tuning, nor can I recommend it to anyone in good conscience. It is possible this is an isolated incident, however when it happens to "you" it's the only incident that matters.

Matt,
Tell the whole story here.Your car had several machanical problems when you brought it down.We did what we could to tune it.Then you drove it home and found shorts and bare wires in your wiring.Moe took off work and asked you to come back up on that friday in the morning. You showed up at 4:30 in the afternoon. You thinking you know how to tune you had been in there playing with tables. That is the only way that your fuel tables would have droped down in the 10s on air fuel like it did.I bit my tongue and so did Moe.Instead we took and retuned your car for you at no extra charge. You picked up over 200 HP FROM OUR TUNE.When we pulled it off the dyno and took it for a drive it ran great. The next day it was brought to my attention that you were in the computer again playing with the tune. When we were tuning your car you kept asking Moe (Just tweek it a little more) as a tuner Moe knows when it is right. But instead he tried the things you asked for to make you happy. You called me and said you felt cheated on your tune because Moe did not change all of the tables.Just to let you know not all of the tables have to be changed.Moe has tunned 100s of cars including other super charged cars and you are the first and only person that we have ever had a problem with. The reason why we have had this problem is because you own LS1 edit and really beleave that you can take someone elses work and tweek it alittle more. You are the one that has messed up your tune.JUST BECAUSE YOU OWN LS1 EDIT DOES NOT MAKE YOU A OVERNIGHT TUNER. Moe has spent alot of time learning his tuning capabilities and were taught by the best.Have you ever heard of Chris Bennight?
Moe and Chris have spent alot of hours together on this. I have 100% confidence in Moe or he would not be a part of Nitro Daves.Matt you are a nice guy,but in your quest of trying to make your self look like the man to your friends you have overlooked the truth.Just keep in mind that you are the only person that has everhad a problem with our tuning and then ask yourself why.I thought long and hard about what to do about you.My decision was and still is to stand behind Moe on this one.
Thanks
Dave

Indeed, the car did have a electrical problem when we first tuned it. The positive battery wire had come loose and was grounding against the crank pulley. It's also true I picked up 200HP from the tune! This is why I said WOT tuning was top notch.

However, the battery terminal ground out does not effect the tune! I showed up at 4:30 because that is when y'all told me to (as I recall) you said Moe works days and goes to Dave's after work for tuning for some extra income. (If I recall correctly).

I was never randomly playing with tables. I never touched any fueling tables PERIOD. I only adjusted Idle Air Flow and IAC Park Position. I told Moe exactly which two I did and he said it was find. If he thought it could be a problem we could have easily reverted back to the original program. He didn't do that because he knew that I had fixed the idle for him!

I explained in my original post what happened with the AFR. The LTrims were pegged at 25 and this caused the ECM to dump fuel at WOT. Why don't you ask Chris B about that?

Hate to save it Dave but your ignorance has shown through like a shining star and the data will back my side of the story up.

I am aware not all tables need to be changed, no doubt. However some important ones DO need to be changed, and they were STOCK! By simply adjusting these tables I was able to get the car to drive perfectly. How do you exlain that?

So Dave, if I don't know jack squat about tuning WHY DOES THE CAR RUN TOP NOTCH NOW WITH NO SURGING, BUCKING, IDLE ISSUES?! WHY ARE THE LTRIMS -3% AND LOCK AT ZERO? WHY DOES IT DRIVE LIKE STOCK PARTIAL THROTTLE?

P.S. I don't care what my friends think, if I wanted them to think I was a bad *** tuner I would have just said I did all the tuning myself and not mention your shop.

P.p.s. I am frankly surprised and disappointed that you posted this, Dave. Oh and one more thing. I personally know of at least 1 other person who is dissatisfied with Moe's tuning. Just because they don't mention it doesn't mean they are satisfied with the tuning.

Default Tune

Lets state ALL the facts.Matt originally you tried to tune your car yourself and told me that you could not drive it because it was running way too rich,(expected with the larger injectors)I sent you a file programmed for the larger injectors so you could drive down here. You stated that you TUNED your car and it ran perfect but on the dyno it only pulled 328 RWHP.My baseline tune netted 512 RWHP and the final tune closed at I believe around 537 RWHP.All was fine.I always go for a drivability test because like you said the characteristics can be somewhat different. The car seemed to run fine.I told you that if you had any trouble once the car was cold to call or E-mail me,tell me the problem and I would tell you how to fix it since you have LS1 Edit.I received no call,no mail. You complained of bucking and surging so Dave told you to bring the car back up.We put it on the Dyno and the air fuel went from 11:8 to below 10:0.Anyone knows that you’re A/F will not have that drastic of a change unless someone gets into the tables and tampers with the parameters. After the fix we went for another drivability test, all surging was gone according to you and it did idle and ran fine.but then you wanted me to make more changes,I told you that I felt like this was not a good idea since it will pull too much fuel out at Part throttle but you insisted. I wanted to please you and your curiosity so I did and what happened ??it threw a lean code,I installed the prior tune and re set the SES light,Then you wanted me to start playing with the timing, basically I believe you wanted to see the results so you could understand tuning a little better. As a tuner you get to a point where you know that changing parameters will not be a positive response. You also complained about calibrating the MAF,you said you do not calibrate a MAF unless it has been modified, wrong again. You have to compensate for the difference in volume and velocity of air that in now entering through the MAF.You also do not understand how a dyno works,Anything less than wot the PCM will strive for stoich, unless the operator hits the sampling button and wot and the exact same time(such as cutting a perfect light) then sampling starts at stoich, this can even be 16 or 17 :1.It is WOT that counts,You complained about this also.I tried to explain this but you did not seem to understand. Also I knew you were wanting to learn and try different things so I took the day off specifically to spend the whole day if necessary to answer all of your questions, you did not show up until 4:30 p.m.Dave and myself still stayed into the late hours of the night to finish up your car. What you were was doing was basically comparing a stock file to my program and told Dave that I left most of the tables stock. This is where novice tuners like yourself have problems, there are many areas that are totally not necessary to recalibrate unless deemed absolutely needed .You claimed that the VE tables were “CRITICAL” to LS1’s.Not true. The editor of LS1 edit is a personal friend of mine and we tuned cars side by side,I have tuned over 80 Supercharged,Nitrous and N/A car ALL with no problems only your car.Matt you told me that you wanted to learn how to tune and I told you that I would work with you anytime and help you out.I don’t understand why your car would drive and idle fine here but once you got back home everything was all screwed up.I am very disappointed in your post.I took the day off and stayed late and you told Dave that I just pushed you out the door.I ALWAYS tell people if they have ANY problem to contact me and I will fix it at no charge,I even drove to Austin to do a minor change on another customers car. There are customers that are disappointed with the end results (expecting a certain amount of Horsepower) but as far as I know,no one has been disappointed with a tune,If there is please let me know. Please leave my personal life out of this saying that I do this for extra income,I do it because I want to help out people and support Nitro Daves Performance Center and I enjoy seeing how people are glad to gain Horsepower in their mods………If you feel that you have mastered tuning then that’s great for you.If you want to trash me on a post like this then that is your prerogative but I still say if you need help or advice feel free to call me.Thanks…………………..Moe

I know this thread kind of got jacked by the blower car and its part throttle tuning issues but I will go ahead and put in my experience with Nitro Dave's and Moe.

I installed some stage 1 heads and a custom ground comp cam in my 6 speed car and took the car to Dave's one weekend before his dyno was finished. Moe put a baseline street tune in it and the driveability of the car was just amazing, the car would barely stay running and would buck like crazy with anything below 2500 rpm before the tune and after the tune it drove around like it was almost a stock car, the only time the car surges now is under 1200 rpm.

I took the car back a few months later and Moe Dyno tuned the car to 425rwhp and 395ftlb's.

Nitro Dave's is a top notch facility (as you probably noticed by the large amount of positive responses to this thread)

Well it seems like you two are certain that I adjusted the parameters. Moe, it's easy for you to tell. Use the LS1 Edit "compare" function and compare the VE vs RPM, MAF, IFR, what ever else you want to with the file I brought back to Daves the 2nd time, versus the one I left with the 1st day. You will see there are NO differences -- I didn't touch a damn thing. (except those 2 idle tables).

Most of the things you said in your post are inaccurate or just plain untruthful. I could go through item by item and disprove them all but it wouldn't help anyone and I don't feel like getting into it since all is well now, it's not a huge deal.

I never intended to flame you or Dave, just wanted to put my story out there and let people draw their own conclusions. I also didn't intend to hijack the thread, sorry if it turned into a flame fest against me from the professionals

P.S. I have no ill feelings towards anyone

bomax, sorry to hear about your problem. I am glad that Dave as well as Moe are still willing to help you with anything you might need. If I were you i would of told them about the idling/surging problem and have moe look at it before you left. You "seeming like" you bashed them at the 1st post and them still responding in a helpful way providing you of assistance whenever needed is truely what I call excellent customer service . That makes me glad I had nitro daves work on my car.

Moe did the tuning on my car and then I put headers on there. It threw a SES light (even with a catted y-pipe) and clark reset it and it threw it again on my way to san antonio. I took it to the dealership (for other things) and they said the airbag light came on and they reset that as well but unfortunately my SES light came back on again . I still have ZERO bad things to say about nitro dave as I KNOW Dave would gladly take care of that for no charge really and maybe even pay for MY lunch AGAIN (but im not going let that happen lol ).

You really should have no reason to be upset with the tune. I understand the fact you were not truely satisfied with the tune because of the mishaps. But **** if they are willing to still help you out with more tuning to correct it then there is truely no reason for you to give bad feedback about there shop right?

Back to the main subject:

I am VERY glad with nitro daves or nitrous outlet working on my car. I would gladly take the 4 hour drive anytime for any future mods as well as moe's tuning. I have never liked putting decals on my car as it feels like im advertising (which is not my cup of coffee) but i was so glad with their work i know i wont take it off.

Hope I wont bore you again dave on my next visit. Ill have to be in your shop for over 24 hours (since ill be there for 2 days for the nitrous install. )

Nitro Dave represting. And if you've never been there you should!

Glad you left happy Vince (but we would make sure that would happen anyways )

Moehorsepower has dyno-tuned my car on 3 different occassions in the past 2 years and with each tune, I had a different setup. He is about to do another tune on my car as soon as the transmission is rebuilt. The first time he tuned my car, the baseline was 339 rwhp/385 ft-lbs torque and he got me 374 rwhp/394 ft-lbs torque. The last time he tuned my car I ended up with 397 rwhp/375 ft-lbs torque. As far as I am concerned, Moe is my tuner for my car. It would be hard for me to take my car to anyone else. Moe has a great deal of knowledge when it comes to tuning a car. He and Nitro Dave are two people that you can put your trust in and believe me when I say that they both go to great lengths to take care of their customers. I have taken my car to 2 different speed shops in Houston and had it just dynoed, not tuned, and each time I was treated like just another customer. The customer service wasn't the greatest. Dave and Moe's customer service is second to none. I will always highly recommend Dave and Moe to anybody.

I did tell 'em. In fact they spent considerable time driving around with me trying to fix it (to their credit). However, each time I left the problem persisted.

Hate to be a "bad apple" maybe I should have just said they did a top notch job to go with the flow

Default Tuning issues

All I can say is that I had my car dyno tuned at a place and I only got 5 h.p. and the driveability sucked, also a friend of mine had his car tuned at another place here in texas and he only gained 6 H.P. We took out cars to Nitro Daves and had the tuning done there by moe.He gained me an extra 24 RWHP and my friends car gained even more,32 RWHP and the driveability was great! The service there was unsurpassed and moe went out of his way to make it right. He also told us that there was more in there but he does not beleive in tuning to the ragged edge like some do just to make the numbers. He cares about the customer and keeping their engine alive and I would highly recommened getting service and tuning there by Daves staff and tunes by moe.I am not starting a flame here either but if you tuned your car to perfection then why did you take your car to Nitro Daves in the first place..

Default mail order tune

I don't know where you are getting off on the Accusations on your tuning .I don't know who you are and do not want to know a person like you that bashes good people.Moe did a mail order nitrous tune,I gave him all of my specs and my car has been running like a bat out of hell.It has been well over a year and have not had ANY issues with his tuning. It is hard to beleive all that you say because I agree with the rest.Moe is very knowledgeable, and always makeing sure everything was right on.I also had a tune done at MTI and it sucked,Car would not idle, ran like crap and after the tune that moe installed it was a difference between night and day,I say to anyone.Take your car and let moe tune it...as for you Mr. perfection I think by all these threads that the truth has come out...........
