PCM swap
I swapped out my 98 PCM for a 01 in my 98 vette. I did the wiring portion and then did a write entire and started changing over the settings. I tried to start it last night but it wont start and is giving me a 1631 (incorrect security password) What else do I need to do?
I read where someone mention that you have to change the VIN, but I thought that if I use my credits and downloaded the PCM info, that would be it
Can someone help me out?
Thanks

Got it
I found an artitcle about turning on and trying to start, then leave it on for 11min and off for 30secs and repeat 3 times so it can communicate with the BCM, and it fires up
NOW.....
MAN; this thing wont run. It will barely idle, and when I give it throttle, it smoothers and revs a little when I release. Ive commanded around 24* timing at idle (same as before the swap)but its only around 12-15.
Guess I may have to go back and look at the wires that were swapped.
It gave a couple of codes but now nothing really and it seems like it show codes if wires were not right.
Sometime I think I should have left it stock!!

Please confirm that you tried your best to copy each of your 98's tuning tables to the '01 PCM. Did you remember to change the engine size?

Also according to my info, C5s from '97 to '05 used the same PCM pinout. So what did you have to rewire? Edit: This is incorrect - the '98 and '99 are different. See below. Mrvedit

I will admit I don't remember seeing a "engine size" but although I got it, I did almost missed the tranmission change
There is a HUGE difference in the pin outs. They are not even close. They will go from Blue on one PCM, to red on the other.
It was a REALLY time consuming job.

I documented (and slightly corrected) an old thread about changing the '98 Fbody pinout to a '99+ pinout here:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/pcm-diagn...cm-0411-a.html
Is this what you had to do with your C5?

Yes
I purchased extra set of connectors so I could pull one pin out and put it directly back in the new one. I checked it several times as I was performing the swap and it was correct, so I was hoping it was something in the tune that was causing the issue. I REALLY don't want to go back through the wiring again
BTW- it is set for 5.7

And did you get the addition I added on April 2, 2015 concerning the IAT:
C-2 cav 8 TAN to C-2 cav 25 IAT Sensor Signal In Pin B (added by mrvedit)
Why is your engine size set to 5.7 when your signature says it is an LS2?
Fueling will be 5% lean then.

I did NOT see that. I will check on it
I was told by a guy that has done the swap on a few cars, to just list it as 5.7. and tune it out. My VE tables should be correct because the car was previously tuned and the VE tables were pretty much dead on.
Im somewhat confused as to why I am getting no codes on a car that will barely stay running. I guess I will recheck everything this weekend and go from there.

If I can keep it running long enough
One of the things I noticed was the timing was reading really low. I have idle timing set around 24* and it logged (while it ran) at around 14-15*
Just feel like Ive missed swapping something over in the tune. Don't have time to work on it during the week, so I am trying to do my research so I will know what to look for..

Its a process
Its running but has some issues. Havent driven it yet to see if the wheel sensors on the 98 will communicate with the new PCM.
Having some idle issues I hope to work out. Will ask the guys here about it.

As I posted earlier, I thought based on PCM pinout documentation (but apparently incorrectly) the '98 to '05 Vette PCMs all had the same pinout. Edit: This is now known to be incorrect.
Therefore it appears the '98 Vette is different from later years and perhaps different from the F-Body.
PM me those 8 discrepancies and I will research it.

Note that is documented as a '98 Fbody PCM swap.

That makes sense. An earlier edition of the printed "Custom Stand Alone Wiring Harness Guide For the GM Generation III" by F-Bodies Inc therefore had completely wrong info for the "1997-2005 Corvette Pins". I see that their latest edition removed the Corvette info.
Bottle Rocket: This makes me more suspicious of your 8 discrepancies as I am confident the swap guide I linked is accurate.
