Default Accel Gen 7 vs F.A.S.T vs BIGSTUFF3

So I found someone last night that had a Accel Gen 7 box in their car and showed it to me, it looks like a pretty sweet setup and he claims it is much cheaper than the BIGSTUFF3 or F.A.S.T system for the LS1 while still being the same quality.

Does anyone have feedback on this?

Well, here's my take on it.

On our shop car, we started out with an Accel Gen 7 system, and an adapter box which allowed you to keep the stock ecm in the car, and/or switch from the gen 7 to the stock ecu. Problem is, it never worked right, so we went to a stand-alone FAST system. We never tried the Gen 7 with it's own harness as a stand-alone, but there seemed to be quite a few people having problems with the system, and returning them. (Maybe that's been resolved, I don't know.)

I've always liked the FAST system, and I have one in my LT1 car, but we were having ignition issues at high rpm with the FAST system on the shop car.

Kurt at W2W informed me that the coil charge time for the FAST/edist was locked in at 4ms, whereas the stock ECU and BS3 ramps the charge time up to 6ms (max time for stock coils), as RPM's increase.

So, at that point, it was either switch to BS3, or buy two MSD DIS-4's, and 8 new MSD coils.

We switched to BS3, and it kicks *** IMHO. No more high rpm ignition issues, and alot of nice features. Not only that, but install was a breeze, as compared to the FAST, I didn't have to build the entire edist harness, or wire in a separate crank adapter box.

can you keep your stock ecm in the car with BS3 (so that your gages and whatnot will all work)?

The harness it comes with is stand-alone, eliminating the factory pcm and harness.

Will the guage cluster work with this owr will I have to make my own? Sorry for the questions I'm a newbie to aftermarket stand alone management systems (going turbo sometime in the future so I'm looking into this now) Thanks!

I think FAST's revision (XFI?) will close the gap a little between it and the BS3. It features the ability to change RPM increments at any point (rather than a set rate of 350rpm, 500rpm, etc.) I don't know about the coil charge setting. If I had more experience w/ the LSx setups, I could've asked Henninger about it this weekend.

There is currently no BS3 piggyback option available to my knowledge...this is why it was not installed in my car. I would like to beleive that if anyone put there mind to it it shouldnt be that difficult, but Id also guess there are only a hanful of people that are capable to do so with confidence. Maybe Mac or perhaps Overton knows someone. Meany has no current plans as far as Im aware. BS3 will offer a tranny controller, but if your like me, the factory gauges and the like are needed. O have seen Gen7 working with factory gauges. 24x vs 4x, I prefer BS3 for a turbo application from what I've seen for the LS1... the LS2 may offer us a better computer than the ls1 from what I have heard.
Bottom line...want over 800rw and its BS3 that appears to be rising to the top of the heap ..keep in mind that BS3's creator also was a significant cog of what became F.A.S.T. and of Accels DFI. ..he just made it with less boxes and with perhaps better, more accurate control. If Kurt uses it, you gotta think its the best out there.

BS3= Big Stuff 3. It is a stand alone engine managment system that will run a LS1. It is the best box available at any price in my opionion. I have run a FAST system on LS and found it to come up short in some area's. The Accell system I have not run.

Not sure of the price on Accel. Big Stuff 3 is 2295.00 for base LS1 kit. This includes everything you need to run a gen3 (wiring harness and ECU). The high speed Data record adds 200.00 dollars to the price.

Well, you could potentially wire up Gen7, FAST, or BS3 into the factory stuff, and just disable some of the factory pcm inputs right. My first iteration of my FAST used the FAST for fuel but not timing. Then I went standalone. But I could have wired it up as a piggyback because I had already done stuff like add 2nd coolant temp sensor for the FAST.
